7 Days Wish I Stayed Longer
If I did this trip again, I'd keep the east coast overnight in Fajardo exactly the same. It made the bioluminescent bay tour and the Culebra ferry day so much easier. The one mistake? I underestimated how tiring the west coast day trip to Rincon would be.

Luis Munoz Marin International Airport
Roovio — An early flight basically gave me a bonus vacation day. Huge win.
I was genuinely surprised by how pleasant and well-organized the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport was! From the moment we arrived, everything went incredibly smoothly. Absolutely all the staff we interacted with were extremely friendly, helpful and polite. The airport is very well organized, and you can tell that everyone knows exactly what they are doing. When we arrived, our checked luggage came out surprisingly quickly, which was a huge plus after a long flight. On departure, we waited no more than about 10 minutes to check in and drop off our luggage, and the security control was just as fast and efficient. For such a busy international airport, I was honestly impressed by how little time we spent waiting. I also really liked the area after security, especially the Duty Free section. There are many shops selling traditional Puerto Rican souvenirs and local products, which gives the airport a much more authentic and welcoming feeling. It was actually nice to have some time to browse and pick up a few last souvenirs before leaving. Overall, this was one of the most pleasant airport experiences we have had. Friendly staff, excellent organization, quick baggage handling and a nice selection of traditional shops — everything made the journey much easier and more enjoyable. I would happily travel through this airport again! ✈️🇵🇷🌴
One of my least favorite airports. The restaurants are a mix of American fast food: dominoes, popeyes; international fare: ramen, Spanish; and gas station food. And it's so expensive. Yes airports are expensive, but it's expensive and unsatisfying. Then the duty free is a waste of time. You can get the same items on the island and just pack it in your bag and save a bunch of money. And the security is super relaxed. I have a subdermal device that always get me pat down. I went through, they asked if I had a necklace, I said yes, and they cleared me. The airport isn't bad, it's just not good and spending time there isn't fun.
I was flying out of Terminal A at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, and honestly the experience getting in was rough. With everything going on around the government shutdown, TSA was extremely slow—long lines and pretty chaotic just to get through the initial checkpoint. Definitely give yourself extra time. The airport itself feels older and a bit worn down. It could really use a refresh. That said, once you’re inside, there are actually a lot of solid food options for breakfast and lunch, plus some good shopping and local snacks. On the bright side, flights seem to run pretty smoothly and leave on time, which helps make up for the hassle getting in. Not my favorite airport, but it gets the job done for the area.
Arriving at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport was a good experience. The airport was clean, organized, and easy to get around. Signs for baggage claim and transportation were clear. My luggage came out quickly, and the whole process was smooth from landing to exit. A nice first impression of Puerto Rico!!
Got to the airport around midnight. Ready to navigate clean airport. Bathroom were clean. Uber pick up was from B 19-20 area. Since landed in PR, its been a great experience.
Condado Vanderbilt Hotel
Roovio — Dropped the bags and left immediately. No chance I was wasting daylight in the room.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our stay at the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel was nothing short of amazing. It is easily one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at, and we will definitely be coming back on future trips to Puerto Rico. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Everyone was incredibly friendly, professional, and genuinely happy to help. The valet service was outstanding they took great care of our vehicle, and whenever we needed it, they would gladly go retrieve it for us. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. The pools are stunning, the entire property is spotless, and the amenities are truly top-notch. We also loved the live music that was offered several nights during our stay it created such a relaxing and upscale atmosphere. The location couldn't be better. It's right on the main strip in Condado, making it easy to walk to restaurants, shops, and everything the area has to offer. There was a little construction nearby, but it never took away from our overall experience. I honestly have no complaints. The service was phenomenal from start to finish, and every part of our stay exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel to anyone visiting Puerto Rico. We can't wait to return!
I had a wonderful 10-day stay at the Vanderbilt Hotel in San Juan, and one of the people who truly stood out during my stay was Griseliz at the front desk. From the moment I arrived, she was incredibly welcoming, professional, and attentive. She consistently went above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable and taken care of. Throughout my stay, staff always greeted me with a genuine smile and was happy to help with any questions or requests. Their positive attitude and attention to detail made a noticeable difference. I would absolutely recommend the Vanderbilt, and I hope management recognizes what a valuable member of the team Griseliz is. Thank you for making my stay in San Juan even better!
The hotel public spaces are spectacular. Well designed and beautiful. They have created such a nice and relaxing environment. The pool areas are a huge highlight. The staff is great from the front desk, to pool attendants & restaurant employees. The room and bathroom are nice. Nothing overly special, but we were happy. Our room service, turn down service, and butler were fantastic. Note: If you get a “ocean view room” it likely means partial view. When we first checked in, our ocean view room was looking right at the middle building, electrical boxes, and a view of the ocean (only if you really stuck your head out the window.) They did move us to a much better “ocean view room” aka partial ocean view room. So we were appreciative of that. We will absolutely go back.
I just finished a lovely week long stay here. I am Boricua and I don’t come to San Juan often but this hotel definitely showed me what I was missing. I preferred staying in the east tower in the Biltmore Suite but the left tower in a standard room was also nice. The hotel is lovely, the grounds are stunning, the pools are just gorgeous (great scenery from the infinity pool) but what really makes this place as great as it is was the staff. Here is a special shout out to all the workers that made my stay a 1000/10 and made me feel right at home. Daniel, Ricardo, Jerik, and Indihra at the Mojito Bar. Every morning and evening they took care of EVERYONE. Danny is so outgoing and kind, Ricardo had all the good tunes, Jerik and Indihra made the best breakfast mimosas. Jerlene working at Ola is the funniest, most welcoming woman ever. There is a special bond that Puerto Ricans have and she felt like a sister. Every morning she greeted me and we shared the best laughs. Jan, Luis, Michael, and Jared at the main pool and adult pool handling towels, chairs, and umbrellas went above and beyond! Whether I wanted sun, shade, or a little in between they were there. Luis met me the first day and called me by name every day after that. I can’t wait to be return home to PR and I will definitely be stopping by Condado Vanderbilt again when I do!
Our recent couple’s stay at the Condado Vanderbilt was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the beauty of the property, the outstanding service, and the attention to detail throughout my visit. The hotel perfectly blends historic elegance with modern luxury. Our room was beautifully appointed, the ocean views were breathtaking, and the amenities made for a relaxing and memorable stay. The location is ideal, with easy access to restaurants, shopping, and Old San Juan while still feeling like a peaceful retreat. What made our experience especially memorable was the exceptional customer service. We encountered an issue with our original room, and **Pablo, the Manager on Duty**, immediately stepped in to help. He listened with genuine care, handled the situation professionally, and graciously upgraded our room. His prompt response, empathy, and commitment to ensuring we had an enjoyable stay completely transformed our experience. Pablo is a wonderful example of what true hospitality looks like, and the hotel is fortunate to have him on its team. We also enjoyed the excellent dining and the warm, friendly service from every staff member we encountered. Everyone made us feel welcome and valued throughout my stay. We highly recommend the Condado Vanderbilt to anyone visiting Puerto Rico. Thanks to Pablo and the entire team, our stay became an unforgettable five-star experience, and look forward to returning.
Cafetería Mallorca
Roovio — Sweet Mallorca sandwich + strong coffee = perfect first meal in Puerto Rico.
Cafeteria mallorca has a vibe from another era. The food was good. I got the ham and cheese mallorca which had a nice dusting of powdered sugar. The coffee was lackluster and the amount given is sad. It would have been much better too if the food and coffee were served with actual plate and cups instead of styrofoam. The service was okay. Our server checked up on us once but the food took 20min to show up despite everyone’s orders being very simple and small. The atmosphere was probably the best part with the old diner feel. However it was a little dingy so a little more upkeep would have made it feel a little more clean
Stopped in for breakfast on our first day here in PR and mad did it NOT disappoint. Service was a bit on the slow side, but nothing terrible. Place felt authentic. Not a fancy place at all, but we prefer local spots. Mallorca sandwich with egg, cheese, half and bacon 5/5. Fresh squeezed OJ 5/5 Freshly made to order papaya shake 5/5 Fresh lemonade 5/5. All in all, highly recommend!
I stopped by Mallorca for breakfast and had a pleasant experience. I ordered the ham, egg, and cheese sandwich, which was good and satisfying, though not particularly memorable. The real star of the visit was the coffee. It was outstanding. I enjoyed it so much that I had two cups while I was there and even ordered another one to go. It was easily some of the best coffee I had during my trip. The service could be improved, as it felt a bit slow and less attentive than some of the other places I visited. However, the quality of the coffee alone makes Mallorca worth a stop, especially if you’re a coffee lover. Overall, it was a good breakfast experience and a place I would visit again for the coffee.
TLDR: got lectured for asking to order, saw them microwaving coffee for customers We sat down at the counter and waited for 15 minutes without anyone helping us. We looked at the menu online and were ready to order. We were ignored when trying to wave someone down to order and finally someone came over… only to lecture us saying they were short staffed and we needed to wait. He spent more time saying all that than it would have taken to just take our order. Then he proceeded to take the order of the people Next to us instead though we arrived first. We finally ordered and we waited for another 15-20 mins. While we waited, I literally saw them take “hot coffee” and put it into the microwave. Seriously? The food finally came and it was really just ok. Already not happy with what had happened, I just took two bites and asked for the check
Overall nice place with affordable pricing. The Mallorca egg,ham and cheese was AWESOME! The chicken and rice was ok as the rice seemed a few days old, not fresh. The red beans were on point!
Viejo San Juan
Roovio — Google — I stopped following Google Maps after 10 minutes and had a much better time.
Castillo San Felipe del Morro
Roovio — The ocean views were the real highlight. Wear shoes you can walk miles in.
If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to learn about the history of Puerto Rico, make sure you check out this location. For just $10 a person, access is granted to explore the grounds of this castle and during the time I went, your ticket was good for two days. When visiting, I would highly suggest wearing sneakers, and bringing water when touring. They do have a small gift shop on location that you can also purchase small items. Due to the beauty of this castle, it is also a great opportunity to grab some photos. The views are breathtaking and worth the visit. I would highly recommend.
El Morro is a sight to see. I went around 10:15 with two kids, age 4 and 6. The wait was just a few minutes. We stayed about 2 hours. We did a lot of walking. The kids had a shorter attention span, just wanted to see the things and explore, up and down the stairs. Beautiful views. I would advise to bring your own cold water (they do sell around 4 bucks a bottle) and umbrella or hand fan if you have. The video they showed in the casemates area was very informative and eye opening, as well as a needed break after up and down stairs. Also, there's a spot before you go downstairs with bars to look out, amazing breeze for a cool down. The day we went was slightly cloudy. The sun was hot when it came out. The few clouds were appreciated when it covered the sun. When we left around noon, the line was long. Thank goodness we came when we did. When you leave treat yourself to helado (icee) or piragua/snowcone when you get off the property. Muy deliciouso.
Price $10 and you can use the ticket at the other fort. The walk is about 30 minutes to get to the other fort. The cemetery is free to walk down to. The closest parking lot Ballaja was the 1st choice at FV9J+485, Calle Morovis, San Juan, 00901, Puerto Rico for $10.but is was full on a Wednesday at 1030 am we ee parked at the Esquire Garage which was $37. The walk from there was about 20 minutes. We went in July and we sweat so so much. They had water amd Gatorade in the park we got one of each fpr $8.
Great visit to Castillo San Felipe del Morro on a Sunday morning. Arrived when they opened up at 9am and there was no wait to get in. Spectacular views of the castle itself as well the surrounding areas. Lots of history about the castle displayed through some great exhibits. Lots of walking, hills and some stairs throughout...so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Great gift shop. Friendly and helpful staff throughout. Admission fee is $10, but grants access to Castillo San Felipe del Morro as well as the nearby Castillo San Cristobal up until the following day...so be sure to take advantage and visit both within that period. There is a reasonably-priced nearby parking garage (Ballaja Parking Garage) just a short walk to the entrance. There is also free street parking along Bulevar del Valle in the early morning hours.
Such an amazing experience visiting this place. All the history behind it was phenomenal to learn. It makes you think about all the injustices the puerto rican people have been going through with such resilience. I do recommend going as they open or later in the afternoon before they close because walking there with no shade is no joke. Lol. Make sure to wear a hat and shades. The entrance fee was resonable for all the things you get to see. It should be around 2-3 hours depending on if you read all the signs with the history or just walk through. 100% would recommend! I love it! Great spot for pics too. @unamelviajera my instagram if you wanna see my travel pictures.
Barrachina
Roovio — Yes, it's touristy. Yes, I'd do it again.
Party of 8 and we loved it! 💯 The location, establishment, cleanliness, staff and food were all very good. It was refreshing to find a spot like this after being in PR for a few days. The Pina Coladas were 🔥 - our entire table got them and we all agreed they were the best we had while visiting. I have attached images of some of the food from out table. It was all very very good! Thank you to staff, management and ownership for providing us with such a great place with great service and great food. 👍
This is the birthplace of the Pina Colada. They were a delicious treat on a hot evening $10 each. Non alcohol versions available. The charming decor of old San Juan makes this place great for photo ops. Dinner was good. Ordered 2 different appetizer samplers. It was good to be able to try a variety of item, everything on both samplers was deep fried.
We ordered the calamari, Puerto Rican delights, sancocho for soup of the day and mofongo. Everything was perfect and of course we didn’t leave without trying their Pina Colada which is what they’re know for. I don’t like Pina Coladas but I will never leave Puerto Rico again without having theirs. Our server, Isaiah, was on point with every recommendation he made. Highly recommend.
Barrachina — Old San Juan, Puerto Rico If you’re walking the cobblestone streets of Old San Juan and could use one essential stop, make it Barrachina. This legendary restaurant holds a special place in cocktail history as the birthplace of the Piña Colada — and sipping one here, right where it all began, is an experience that’s hard to beat. The Piña Colada lives up to its reputation: creamy, fresh, and perfectly balanced — genuinely the best you’ll find in Puerto Rico. Not a drinker? No problem. The Virgin Piña Colada is just as refreshing and every bit as satisfying, keeping the full tropical flavor without the alcohol. It’s a great option for families or anyone skipping the spirits. A practical tip that’ll save you time: if you’re just coming for drinks, skip the dining line and head straight to the bar. The wait for a sit-down table can be long, especially during peak tourist hours. But walk-up bar service is quick and gets you that iconic glass in hand without the wait. Whether you’re a history buff, a cocktail lover, or just someone who needs a cold drink after exploring Old San Juan in the heat, Barrachina is a must-stop. It’s not just a restaurant — it’s a landmark. Bottom line: The birthplace of the Piña Colada, and it still makes the best one on the island. Go for the drinks, skip the dining queue if you’re short on time, and raise a glass to a true Puerto Rican original.
Why we chose Barrachina? They offered bag storage which we desperately needed so we could hang out in the beautiful city of old San Juan. Izeya was our server, and looked absolutely uninterested in his job. Was quick to take our order and food arrived within 15 mins of ordering. Chicken Mofongo ($18), Shrimp Mofongo, and Pork Mofongo was what was ordered by the group. Food was ok, but the Pork Mofongo was the worst dish on the table. Pork chunks were dry, extremely chewy and had no seasoning whatsoever. The bar area also smelt of fermented/decaying fruits - that extremely unwelcoming and unpleasant smell. No beers on tap either. Overall, pretty disappointing experience. No wonder they have to incentivize you with bag storage, because no ones coming here for the food!
Paseo del Morro
Roovio — Google — This sunset walk instantly made me understand the obsession with Old San Juan.
Princesa - Cocina Cultura
Roovio — Fresh seafood, live music, and the exact atmosphere I hoped my first night would have.
Princesa, located in Old San Juan, is an absolute jewel. The restaurant came highly recommended by a friend whose opinion I trust when it comes to good eating, and let me just say — this place did not disappoint. First, let’s talk about the Rum Old Fashioned, made with Ron del Barrilito, smoked with cinnamon, and served with a coconut water ice cube. This cocktail was the perfect way to begin the culinary experience. From there, I ventured into the breadfruit with ground meat, which beautifully set the stage for the rest of the meal. The main event of the evening was the deep-fried pork belly served over a delicious risotto. This dish had all the flavors packed into one amazing bowl of goodness. Rich, savory, satisfying, and perfectly prepared — I could have easily eaten another portion. Before moving on to dessert, I had another Rum Old Fashioned, and once again, the cocktail did not miss. I finished my culinary tour with an amazing tres leches that surprised me with its beautiful coconut flavor. It was full of flavor but still light, which made it the perfect ending to the meal. Lastly, the ambiance was warm, dimly lit, and inviting. On the night we dined, there was live music, which added even more charm to the experience. The wait staff was amazing from start to finish. This is absolutely a spot I would recommend, and I would surely dine here again. I have no regrets about the money spent — it was worth every dollar.
My cousin and I stopped by unexpectedly for dinner and our brain chemistry were changed. This was the best food I had in my life, our first night we had Carla and she was unbelievably sweet and attentive to us. We never had to ask her for anything else, she knew everything we needed. The food itself is absolutely outstanding, not to be dramatic but I literally cried. To have food provoke so much emotion is amazing, the food had to been cooked with love because it tasted just like how I remember my abuelas. This experience was so outstanding, we went again the next day to try their specials. Every time we visit, I’ll be making a stop here. Absolutely amazing.
A definite must! The food was delicious (I had the fish ceviche and Caribbean arroz). Atmosphere was perfect. Live saxophone and piano - entertaining but quiet enough that you can have a conversation at your table. Decor was really cool with the trees growing in the resto and extending through the roof. Also service was top notch. Knowledgeable about the menu and the city. Great for a solo dinner, a date or a group. Also the price was really good for the quality. Only put me out around $45!! Would recommend to anyone visiting :)
My family and I dined today at this restaurant . We observed that it already has a good rating from other customers. Upon arrival , the exterior was aesthetically pleasing to the eye , very welcoming . Then upon entering , the decor inside was very nice . My kids ordered the arroz con pollo, while my wife and I had the chicken sausage and smoked pork rice bowl with tostones and avocado . All of our meals were beyond our expectations. The meal was excellent , reminded me of my mom’s home cooking . Our waitress was fantastic , and meal came out very fast , and got our beverages fast as well . The chefs there did a great job . I will highly recommend this restaurant and anyone who is visiting Puerto Rico and is in the old San Juan area should put this restaurant on their bucket list . Thanks again , when we teturn in the future we will be back ..😎⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had a family of 10 celebrating a graduation. The ambiance was like a nature walk with trees and the structure built around them. The food was very good. The pork belly was amazing. There was a dish with beans, rice and plantains which was especially good! I even stopped the manager to extend kudos to the manager for the amazing service & cuisine.
Condado Vanderbilt Hotel
Roovio — Early bedtime because El Yunque starts before the crowds tomorrow.

Roovio — Quick breakfast and coffee. Every local told me the same thing: "Get to El Yunque early."
Yes. Just yes! Dined in for lunch. The flavors here! The sandwiches were freshly prepared, with thick cuts of whatever you choose. The beef soup, hearty and savory. The expresso, yummm 🤤 Service was polite and hospitable. It's helpful to either speak/understand the native language in this establishment, but not mandatory. We encountered a gentleman (staff) that was able to navigate us in English. Crowded at any time of the day; we didn't have to wait for seating though. Worth your time and tastebuds. Definitely will return.
I mean what is not to love when you can try all the local desserts in one well know and delicious bakery. You order at the counter either take out or sit in. We decided to sit in. The nice lady at the counter gave us pointers about what to order. In order from our favorite to least favorite (but still delicious): tres leche cake, coconut pudding, guava cheesecake, and their cheese pastry. The cake was moist and great subtle flavor. I loved the pudding too- smooth, light with a touch of cinnamon. I had never really had guava before and it came highly recommended so we tried and really enjoyed it as well. The cheese pastry was fine, a little drier for our liking but still glad we tried a local dessert. I think you definitely need to do a sampling from here. There were so many things that looked really good. I would even go back to try the main courses. Kind service, delicious desserts what more do you need?
Everything my friend and I tried was fresh and delicious. Close walk from Ocean Park Beach. I recommend to anyone in the area wanting a delicious breakfast, sandwich or fresh baked treats. Beautiful presentation of the pastries. They have quite a bit of seating here.
A solid four stars. This is a VERY popular spot in San Juan so we wanted to check it out. It’s super crowded so we had high hopes but breakfast was just… average. The bread is yummy, the coffee is okay but $11.95 plus tax and tip for eggs and toast is kinda wild.
A beloved local bakery + eatery 🥪 Packed almost every day, but service is lightning fast ⚡ Tiramisu is pricey, yet totally worth it 🍰 And the highlight — don’t miss the Cuban sandwich! 😋 Made with soft Mallorca bread and hearty meats, pure satisfaction 😍
El Yunque National Forest
About an hour from Condado. Empty roads and cooler weather made a huge difference.
Roovio
Such a beautiful spot. I spent a few hours hiking and honestly could've stayed even longer. Wear good shoes because some of the trails can get pretty slippery, and try to get there early before it gets too crowded.
My family and I had a great time here. We explored different trails and made it to the Britton tower. We didn't get to the big waterfall but we enjoyed the small one. We ate some good food and had some drinks. The vibe was nice. Definitely the place to check out while in Puerto Rico.
An amazing beautiful part of PR, a must view. The trails are tricky and uneven, so trail shoes are recommended. Bring water and sugary snacks, after an hour you run low on energy. There are little to no trail signs to advise where you are or how far to you have left, which is dissapointing. Otherwise its a spectacular visit.
Sooooo beautiful. It's a nice workout but worth the views and memories. They don't allow rideshare so unless you want to walk from the visitors center get a rental. I had cell signal the whole time. Come prepared because this is a real hike. Amazing experience.
Amazing! Beautiful rainforest. We'll maintained and accessible. Staff at the visitor center were friendly and the facility was clean, informative, and offered great information. Highly recommend visiting. There are frequent locations to pull off and see various sites. Was easy to navigate for first time visitors but roads are narrow, so use caution when driving.
What an absolutely beautiful place! We really enjoyed the visitors center and then the drive up through the rainforest! This is a must do, especially if you love nature, hiking, waterfalls, and seeing breathtaking views!
Torre Mount Britton Trailhead
Roovio — The tower view erased all complaints from my legs.
Go early for easier parking. One quarter of the trail was through paved jungle. The rest was road walking to Yunque Peak. We did Britton tower about 1/3 of the way up. Past the towers were some massive communication towers giving of some Jurassic Park vibes. No view due to low lying mist. Overall not a long or difficult trek, maybe 2-3 hours leisurely stroll.
This is a great trail. Come early and bring water be patient with the parking. View from the top is wonderful and g go to the tower lookout as well. Bring sunscreen you are in Puerto Rico. Good share on the button part. Saw wild orchid asking the road.
Quite a unique trail in terms of walking on concrete with embedded Stones. But it really helps and even even though it's rained recently, I didn't find it to be slippery. It's a bit narrow so you need to hop off when other people are coming. The sign at the bottom says it takes 45 minutes to get up there, which isn't wrong. If you go at a more common Pace but you could probably do it in about 20 if you hustle as fast as you can. You're the top it gets a little bit easier as it connects with the road and then has a more standard Stone path
Amazing views! I recommend to go early in the day to get a good parking spot and do the hike, we went up to the tower (it took around 40 minutes) and then did a bit more of the hike next to it. It can be a bit slippery, so it’s good to have good sandals or shoes. I took my Teva with me and it worked great!
Such a beautiful trail. Parking is limited so plan ahead. It’s usually pretty crowded so arrive early if you prefer to see less people around. Definitely wear comfortable walking shoes as you will walk a ton. Be careful not to touch too many plants as some cause people to breakout in rashes. Overall if you love nature this is an awesome trail.
Quebrada Juan Diego
Roovio — The water was freezing in the best possible way. Water shoes helped a lot.
This hike is the definition of getting the best bang for your buck! There is a short climb, but it shouldn’t take you more than 10 mins. My 3 year old was able to do it! At the end you are rewarded with a beautiful natural pool at the bottom of the waterfall. You are also able to continue climbing to the top, but it was too steep for my daughter so we just hung out in the pool which was still spectacular! Highly recommend for families with young children who want to experience the beauty of El Yunque without an arduous trek.
The hike wasn't bad at all and was worth every bit of it. 2 beautiful waterfalls and a swim hole to cool down in. Also feels like your in the jungle. Very beautiful
The road was closed, so we couldn’t reach the famous Cascada La Mina 😢 Instead, we settled for another swimming spot nearby. Upstream, the waterfall current is strong and the water is icy cold ❄️🌊 You’ll have to trek through a muddy trail first 🥾 — but honestly? Totally worth the adventure!
03/30/2026 An amazing site to see especially the two waterfalls. First parking is extremely tight and rare, now the hike can be extremely difficult if its wet & muddy. Please tred carefully I was afraid for those with kids especially with INFANTS, the trail going upward can be tricky just be careful. When reaching the waterfalls the sight of them is BREATHTAKING AND REFRESHING if you decide to take a dip in, especially the bigger fall going under when all the water hits you is so relaxing. Just be CAREFUL and enjoy yourselves.
Great place to go with family and kids and if you want a bit chalange just find the side trail next to the waterfall and you will find an amazing hiding spot! The side trail doesn't fit for kids.
Kiosko #48
Roovio — I treated lunch like a food crawl instead of picking one kiosk.
The food there is not great...if you like food with spices and moist, this is not the place or town... the rice was hard... I was not impressed. They were really nice. To be fair in my culture we season our food and it is never dry...
I give them more like a 4 1/2 star rating. We only ordered a few fried fritters to go. What I did like about this location was some of the fritters are cooked at that moment. That does mean waiting for some time to pass. What I didn't l enjoy about this kiosko was, the wait time can feel longer then what it really is.
If you wants some delicious alcapurias, bacalaitos and ice cold beers...and let's not forget the amazing piña colada!! Plus outback you have the beach and a guy with a horse that you give a tip to and you can ride the horse.
WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! Lots of food options and it’s right behind the beach. Perfect for swimming and very safe for kids.
We ordered combo pincho/ kabobs -chicken, pork and shrimp to share. Order took forever to arrive and pricey. All the food was dry, like it had sat out overnight , no flavor to arroz con gandules, tostones were dry , shrimp were not cleaned properly, no one came to table to offer any assistance or service. No ventilation at all- very unpleasant in heat. Don’t waste your time or money here. Go to La Parrilla - kiosks #2, fabulous food and service!!!!
Luquillo Beach
Roovio — First moment of the trip where I completely stopped checking the time.
One of the best beaches in PR, I was passing through and made a stop. I am planning to go back , but to enjoy the water, also visit the wonderful kiosks and appetizer.
Luquillo Beach is a beautiful and very popular spot in Puerto Rico. The beach is quite long, so even when it’s busy, you should be able to walk a bit and find a place to settle in. If you like being part of the scene and don’t mind a lively, social beach atmosphere, this is definitely a spot for you. Parking can be challenging, especially during busier times, so plan accordingly. I’d also recommend bringing your own chairs, towels or blankets, snacks, and anything else you need to get comfortable and make a full day of it. One thing to know before visiting is that some sections of the beach have a paid entrance, while other areas are free to access. We visited on a very windy day, but the water was still relatively calm and enjoyable, which was a nice surprise. The biggest downside—and the reason I’m giving it four stars instead of five—was the amount of garbage on the ground. For such a popular and beautiful beach, it was disappointing to see so much litter. There either needs to be more dedicated people regularly cleaning the area or significantly more trash bins available throughout the beach. Overall, Luquillo Beach is worth visiting, particularly if you’re looking for a lively beach where you can set up for the day, enjoy the water, and take in the local scene. 🇵🇷🌴
Out past the rainforest we drove about an hour from our hotel at the recommendation of another beach goer and local. This beach had lots of activities, including jet ski rental. Lots of food vendors. They even have waiters to deliver your cold beverages and food. The chair and umbrella guys are quick. One thing to remember is that chair and umbrella rentals on the beach are generally CASH ONLY!
Great beach water is crystal clear and calm (early in the day). Food was solid from the kiosks. Parking is close, maybe a 3-4 min walk from lot to water.
The sun reflecting off the horizon, the ocean glowing in the brightest blue — it’s the kind of place you could spend the entire day in the water 🏖️🌊✨ Right nearby is the PR-193 food stand area, so you can swim, eat, drink, and even sing your heart out all in one spot 🎶🍹🌮 Only downside? Prices run a bit high… and there’s no A/C 😅 But hey — that’s tropical life!
La Estación
Roovio — Easily one of the best meals of the week.
The food was OUTSTANDING! This was my second time dining here, and recommended this restaurant to our large group and everyone loved their steak & seafood! Tostones de pana were also a huge hit! The vibes were amazing, and can't wait to come back here! Edwin was an excellent server for our big group! Super friendly, knowledgeable, and had the BEST recommendations! I had the tuna special.....absolutely incredible.
La Estacion was our favorite meal of the trip. The service was very warm and welcoming. We were greeted quickly and walked through the specials. The atmosphere didn’t feel performative; the staff seemed to genuinely enjoy being there and the food spoke for itself. I had the passion fruit cosmo (fresh passion fruit flavor and they didn’t skimp on the rum 😅). We had their smoked wings and tuna dip for appetizers. The wings were *incredible* and the tuna dip tasted fresh and not artificially smoky. For our entree, we shared the swordfish special with roasted tomatoes, sweet potato mash, and green beans. Everything was buttery, rich, and delicious. Easily the best, most savory sweet potato mash I’ve had. We unfortunately didn’t have room for dessert but I feel we’ll have to plan a trip back to Fajardo just to experience it.
Service was good, and although the line was long, it moved fairly quickly. The food was tasty, and the casual outdoor setting gave it a nice island vibe. My only complaint is that the steak was overpriced for this type of restaurant. It’s a small, casual place in Fajardo—not a high-end steakhouse—so the price didn’t feel justified. Other than that, we had a good experience and enjoyed the food.
Great BBQ spot. Glad I checked reviews before picking this location. You need to make a reservation if you want a guaranteed spot. It’s small and large parties tend to come to enjoy the food and the ambiance. We were 7 and had food to spare. The meats were very tasty. If ever back in the area, I will be sure to stop by. Oh and the drinks were well made as well.
After our boat trip, we always recommend popping into this place as they serve the best smoked meats in Puerto Rico. Our absolute favourite dish is the ribs 🤤 oh my goodness. We’d definitely recommend this place
Laguna Grande
The glowing water looked fake until I touched it with the paddle.
Roovio
I didn't know what to expect, but this ended up being one of the coolest things I did in Puerto Rico. Watching the water glow every time my paddle touched it was pretty amazing.
Bioluminescent effect: 2.5 stars New moon night first time ever kayaking experience: 2.5-stars Whoever gave anything above 2.5 stars for the bioluminescent effect at Fajardo is on another planet. Whoever is doing the Laguna Grande more than once for the bioluminescent effect must be smoking or drinking something heavily. If you're looking for mainly for the bioluminescent effect, DON'T waste your money in Fajardo: head to Vieques on a new moon night and take the electric boat (only). You'll see the bioluminescent effect ALL THE WAY, WITHOUT need for tarpaulins over your head. It's a unique experience that cannot be captured in a photo. But, even there, keep your expectations in check; don't look for James Cameron movie type special effects. Don't waste your money on 'glass bottom' boats/kayaks in either place. The bioluminescent effect is visible only when the water is disturbed. In Fajardo, you can't see that even during the strokes of the kayaking oar. There is nothing to see in the water in the night. If you're interested mainly in night time kayaking, then it may be interesting to run into the mangroves in Fajardo and figure out how to get out of it yourself as a stark beginner. If you're doing kayaking without a guide from the tour company handling the kayak, you DO need to be (1) physically fit, (2) be able to quickly reason about the physics of oar movement and learn kayaking on the fly. The kayak companies do give instructions, but that's not sufficient for stark beginners in the night, differentiating your group from the others using colour and shape of small LED lights that are attached to the boats/vest.
The best spot to chill and have fun around here. The owners are super sweet with lovely smiles.
Bioluminescent phytoplankton here are amazing, only a handful of places like this in the world. Go when there’s a new moon (no moon) and also low tide is a little better than high tide. Takes some effort to kayak in up the canal but definitely worth it. Many tour services at the Kayak Village, they will guide you up the canal through the mangrove trees, but not too tricky.
READ THIS OR BE DISAPPOINTED - I'd love to give these Bioluminescent Bay tours 5 stars, but this was the second time I've done a tour of a Bio Bay in the hopes of really getting a good look at the Bioluminescence, but no luck. The tour company, Tortuga's Tours, was great - well organized, excellent instructions, great guides. The problem, folks, is that the conditions need to be perfect to really see the bioluminence. It needs to be a new moon & completely dark. If the moon is out, you really won't get to see much. Luckily our tour guides knew this & brought tarps to put over us so we could kind of see the Bioluminescence when we splashed the water. Also, know that if you take the later of the tours offered you will be paddling a kayak in complete darkness through a narrow banyon grove canal with only a small light on the life vest of the person in front of you for light. The guides look after you, but it can be a bit unnerving. I thought it was cool, but a bit scary. Additionally, load up on bug spray! If you don't you'll regret it. All in all, unless conditions are perfect, skip these tours & go snorkeling instead.
So cool to visit at night and dip into the water to activate the plankton and bioluminescence
Flamenco Beach
Roovio — Now, I moved "Flamenco Beach" where I took beautiful photos and enjoy the beach breeze
definitely one of the best beaches that ive ever had the pleasure too step foot on... crystal clear water, amazing views and not over crowded! a must see beach!!!
Not fun at the moment, full of sargassum and very smelly beach. Go to tamarindo beach is actually better and water is calmer will need water shoes for rocks or also go to datiles beach also very calm water.
Flamenco Beach is absolutely worth the trip from the Puerto Rico mainland. Just be prepared, the ferry ride can be rough, especially if the seas are choppy. Once you arrive in Culebra, it’s easy to grab a taxi to the beach for about $5 per person. The beach itself is stunning, with a wide crescent-shaped bay, incredibly soft white sand, and crystal-clear turquoise water. If you enjoy snorkeling, be sure to bring your gear. There’s a reef just offshore that’s well worth exploring. Even though it’s a popular destination, we found a quiet spot beneath some palm trees where we could relax and enjoy a little privacy. The beach also has chair and umbrella rentals, along with several food kiosks offering plenty of options for snacks, drinks, and lunch throughout the day. Flamenco Beach lives up to its reputation as one of the Caribbean’s best beaches. Whether you want to swim, snorkel, or simply relax with an incredible view, it’s a place you won’t soon forget.
Beautiful Beach. They have shops for food & drinks. A rental location for chairs & umbrelas $15 & kids sand toys $5. They do have restrooms & showers outdoor. Sand was white & Beautiful beach, very similar to Playa Buye cabo rojo incase you dont want to take the trip out to Culebra. I got tickets a day before, to head to culebra. Taxis are right outside after every ferry $5/person. We chose not to rent car and i think it was very option to stay in a budget. We stayed downtown for 2 nights which i highly recommend. Is very tiring to go n come back in a ferry for total of 2.5-3hrs. So its better to spend the night. Airbnb i recommend is the owner of the breakfast place called cafe y pan. 3mins from ferry. Do recommend to go early to beach. After 5pm bigger waves and 1 of the days we went couldnt get in water bc a lot of water currents.
One of greatest beaches in the world for a reason. The water is some of the bluest water I’ve seen in my life. Take a taxi since it’s not walkable from the port/airport. The locals are all very nice.
Dinghy Dock Restaurant
Roovio — Seafood + frozen drink + ocean view = no notes.
This place has the most beautiful ambience and views in Culebra!! You truly feel like you’re in vacation!!!! The Panna Tostones were our favorite!!! And the Mahi mahi too with the side of rice and Beans!!! Thank you!!! We will come back!!!!!
Really good burgers and great cocktails. The food was honestly better than we expected. The prices are fair, the service was friendly, and watching fish swim right next to the restaurant while you eat is such a cool experience. We’ve been in Puerto Rico for a week and have tried a lot of places, but this one is definitely one of our favorites. Highly recommend, we’ll definitely be back
We went there for dinner—just a heads up, there can be a bit of a wait to be seated. for appetizers, We tried the grilled octopus, which was really good and clearly the winner. The fried fish fingers were okay, and the coconut shrimp was decent but nothing special. For the mains, we had the kingfish, which was good, while the chicken was just okay. Solid drink selection overall.
An absolutely five-star experience! The food at Dinghy Dock Rest was simply excellent—flavorful, fresh, and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was spectacular, offering a great vibe that makes you want to stay all night. On top of that, the service was truly exceptional; the staff was attentive, friendly, and made us feel incredibly welcome. Highly recommend, and I will definitely be back!
The best spot for lunch and dinner on the whole island! I loved the spare ribs but also the chocolate brownie with ice cream was great. They also make good and strong cocktails 🍹 that will get you happy :)
Tamarindo Beach
Roovio — I spotted sea turtles within minutes of getting in the water.
This is my favorite beach of culebra always is cool to go and because is in a bay area never is a swell
The best snorkeling beach on my PR trip. I arrived there around 11am and saw turtles, a ray, and a lionfish. I went with a tour guide, which definitely helped me find them more easily. Because of that, I had a better experience there than at Flamenco Beach. Just note that there are no showers or restrooms near the beach. Driving from the Culebra ferry terminal can also be tough...
Saw 5 different turtles, huge schools of fish, barracuda, ghost jellies, and a Ray. Bezos yacht was within sight so that should tell you everything you need to know. If it’s good enough for a billionaire….cmon.
One of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever been to. The sunsets were immaculate and vibes were spectacular. Really great spot to rent a surfboard ($10 USD/day) and go surfing, especially early in the morning or sometime in the evening. It was very hard to leave and go back to the winter cold in Canada. One thing I found strange and great was tourist would leave their belongings on the beach to go for a dip, and none of their belongings would get stolen.
Amazing place to snorkel! Was able to rent floaters and fins from Juan who was a great help to us. Didn’t do a tour like others but Juan is your man. He usually has a table set up with floaties and fins. His dogs are better swimmers than me. Saw huge turtles, eagle ray, beautiful fishes, and great coral!
Blac Flamingo Coffee
Roovio — Needed the caffeine before the return ferry.
Blac Flamingo Coffee was one of the highlights of our day in Culebra! We stopped in on the recommendation of Juan Carlos from Carlos Jeep Rental, and we're so glad we took his advice. From the moment we walked in, we knew this wasn't just another coffee shop. The menu offers creative and unique sandwich combinations that go far beyond the ordinary. I ordered the pastrami sandwich, and it was absolutely fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared. It's the kind of sandwich you find yourself thinking about long after you've finished eating. And then there's the coffee. Simply outstanding. Rich, smooth, and expertly crafted, it was exactly what we needed after a morning of exploring the island. It's clear that coffee is taken seriously here, and the quality shines through in every cup. Beyond the food and drinks, the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, making it the perfect place to slow down and enjoy a taste of island life. Whether you're looking for breakfast, lunch, a caffeine boost, or just a great local spot to visit, Blac Flamingo Coffee should be at the top of your list. Thank you for a wonderful meal and some of the best coffee we had during our Puerto Rico trip. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Culebra!
My family and I stayed on Culebra for a long weekend so we stopped after getting off the ferry. The food was amazing, the coffee was amazing, the building is very cute, and the bathrooms are both clean and pretty. My Puerto Rican family ate in silence. To make sure this wasn't a fluke, we went there again. We all had different plates and everything we ate and drank was sublime. The owner and staff were also lovely and kind. The whole place feels very welcoming and happy. I couldn't recommend this place enough, it's a short trip from the ferry, and it is SOOO worth it. When my husband found out that the owner is a Cowboys fan, he was disturbed, being a NY Giants fan himself, however, since the food, coffee, and chef were amazing, he gets a pass. Saludos a tu pana boricua.
Visited this cafe for the first time on this island. The staff were absolutely friendly and amazing. The atmosphere is pleasant and easy to talk. Tried their French toast, eggs and bagel with cream cheese. Everything is absolutely delicious and perfect. Especially the bagel which was toasted in butter I believe is really tasty. 🤤 the coffee was crafted very well. I would definitely recommend it for everyone for breakfast.
Get here when they first open, because they will be busy all day. The coffees were perfect, both hot and cold, and their Bacalava is insane!!! (sorry I ate it before the picture) one was pistachio and the other was honey guava mmmmmmmmm
We had breakfast here while visiting Culebra, and it was an amazing experience! The coffee was absolutely incredible — you can truly tell they have a talented barista who takes pride in making the perfect cup. We also tried the matcha, the eggs were delicious, and the avocado toast was fresh and full of flavor. Everything we ordered was excellent, and the quality really stood out. This place is definitely highly recommended. If we come back to Puerto Rico and visit Culebra again, this will absolutely be one of our stops. We would happily come back!
Ceiba Ferry Terminal
Roovio — Everyone on board looked sunburned and completely satisfied.
The Ferry is kind of remote, so planning ahead for food and water is wise! The boats run on a fairly regular schedule. We did not do any research beforehand and had to wait about an hour for the destination we chose. Loading was easy and well organized. There are tents for shade. There was no outside space open at the time of our trip on the ferry which was a little disappointing. You can still see through windows but it didn’t hit the same as wind in your face! Overall though - no complaints, well managed, and friendly people.
Well I must say this is not what we saw on tiktok. If you are planning a trip to LA culebra, now is not the time. The ferry area part was ok the people are friendly however the ride was rough. The wait times were ok we got tickets on site must be an hour before departure. Parking is close about a 5 minute walk. Donot eat or drink if you easily get motion sickness the majority of the people on the ferry were very sick. The ferry we took had cars for cargo I felt like that makes the ferry jump higher. On the way back we took the ferry with no car cargo and felt a little better. The island is very bad hardly anything open it seemed abandoned i don't understand where all the people go to. We rented a golf cart drove around to several beaches they were mainly empty or closed probably cause of the time of year. Overall to us was an experience but the views were not great at all. PLEASE take motion sickness meds to help you ride smoother.
This was an absolutely unacceptable and frustrating experience. I arrived more than one hour early to purchase a ticket to Vieques, and the line still barely moved. The issue was not the number of customers, it was the lack of urgency and professionalism behind the counter. The two women working appeared to be laughing, talking, and socializing instead of focusing on getting people through the line quickly. When customers are trying to catch a ferry, that kind of behavior is unacceptable. There is no reason a basic $4–$8 ticketing process should be this slow, outdated, and poorly managed. This entire system needs to be modernized immediately. Customers should be able to purchase tickets online or use self-service kiosks instead of being forced to wait in a line that does not move. Management needs to seriously reevaluate the staffing and operations at this location. If employees cannot process simple ticket sales quickly and professionally, then the process needs to be automated and replaced with a faster, more reliable system. Based on this experience, I would never recommend this ferry service to anyone. The lack of urgency, poor customer service, and outdated ticketing process made this one of the worst travel experiences I’ve had.
I’ve witnessed a family with their kids being discriminated against from two male workers, one I found the name, Lt. Garcia. These two males were like on a power trip, arguing with the females and a family. The supervisor and other crew members didn’t care and most likely won’t do anything. They were most definitely on time for their boarding, and these temp male workers, including Lt. Garcia intentionally closed the gates early, unable to board thus missing their ferry’s. We’ve also witnessed other passengers boarding either late or after the time, which was proof of their discrimination. This is very concerning for new passengers especially outsiders. Just be careful interacting with these folks. It’s a security guy with painted nails with a name badge that says Garcia.
Great experience! We found the staff to be very friendly & knowledgeable at both Ceiba and Culebra. The provided us with a map and recommendations. The terminal has affordable $15 parking for the day plus a transport to drive you from the parking lot. As a female traveler I appreciated how well lit the area was at night. I’d definitely do this again.
El Cayo Restaurant
Roovio — Kept it simple with fresh fish and tostones.
Great food and service. I honestly just couldn't stand the amount of mosquitoes and flies. They do nothing for the management of these pests. Not a fire not a fan nothing. I was bitten all over just by sitting on the deck outside. Had to fight the flies to eat.
Beautiful location, with full sea view, a nice terrace sheltered from the sun with plenty of open ventilation. The food was very good, ample selection of local specialties mainly (but not only) based on fresh seafood. The staff was friendly and responsive, though we were a sizeable group and it took some time for everyone to get the mains we had ordered, prepared and delivered few at a time. The ambiance was pleasant and welcoming, though somehow affected by some noisy lawn mowing right next to the dining terrace during our lunch (I guess the restaurant management had little influence over that). Good cocktails available at the table (as well as at the bar). Overall a positive experience, I would go back.
El Cayo is FANTASTIC. With a beautiful outdoor deck sitting along the side of the canal the leads from the marina to the sea, the dining area is so relaxing and peaceful. The drinks are delivered from the bar chilled and timely, and the cocktails are fresh and boozy. My El Cayo Burger (Special) was very tasty, and the Mofongo (so many different options) con Pollo Criolla was very delicious. Thank you to the staff at Sea Ventures for the recommendation; El Cayo was a perfect place to end our day of diving. Gracias 🙏🏼
The view, atmosphere, and ocean breeze were absolutely amazing! However, service was mediocre and the food was not as great as other places we went to. The presentation of the dishes was very nice and some people might really like the flavors. For us, the fried snapper was a bit bland and wasn't fried enough. Again, just our opinion compared to what we like in a fried snapper. Not a bad place to visit if you want a place with a gorgeous view.
The food was excellent, the atmosphere was fantastic. The only thing to note would be the bathrooms are in a different building, so if you have a hard time walking or or elderly, just keep it in mind.
Panadería España
Roovio — Pastry, coffee, and an early start towards the southern
Don’t skip on the soups! A detailed review of the food, the ordering process, the pick up process, and our favorite items. What a beautiful family restaurant, full of excellent baked goods, Made to order sandwich wine and beer, incredible soups, and prepared foods. We went several times while we were here, at least twice a week. We could walk here from our apartment. The setting: big and bright. This is not a dimly lit restaurant for your date night. Lots of families. Lots of chatter. Vibrant and loud. The process: like most bakeries, you can go to buy your baked goods, the sweeties and cakes and croissants, and pay for them at the counter and just take them with you. And you can just find a table or you can take them to go. For the made to order sandwiches, you go to the counter, and have your sandwich made, and then you go to a table and they will find you. They weren’t really calling out numbers. You had to watch for a little bit to make sure it was coming. But they tend to find you. Surprisingly, this was also the case with coffees. So if you order a sandwich and a coffee, your coffee does not come out first. That’s something to remember. If you just order a coffee, I suspect they’ll just give you your coffee while you wait. But if you order an espresso or something and food, it all comes up together. The food: the soups were all incredible. Caldo gallego was my fave; it is like a sopa de jamon y salchichon with beans and potatoes and so much more! If you’re ordering something really large, like the paella we ordered for 20 people, be sure to order it a day or so in advance. It’s interesting, because the paella special was a Mother’s Day special, and it came with a bottle of wine. And it was so… Much… Food. Much much more than we ever would’ve expected. Much more than for 20 people We snacked off of it all week. This Bakery was an essential part of our stay in the neighborhood.
Panadería España — Food That Feels Like Home This place was absolutely beautiful and honestly overwhelming in the best possible way. I don’t even know how else to describe it. From the pastries, ceviche, sandwiches, soups, and coffee — everything looked incredible, and I genuinely did not know what to order. I ended up ordering almost one of every pastry. The man helping me was so kind and patient, probably thinking “this tourist is ordering the whole bakery,” lol. I explained that we were on our way to El Yunque, and he even recommended items that would hold up well in the car for a few hours, which I really appreciated. Then we ordered sandwiches and coffee — a pastrami and a Cuban. Let me say this clearly: I LOVE a Cuban sandwich, and this was hands down the best Cuban sandwich I have ever eaten. Perfectly pressed, flavorful, fresh, and absolutely unforgettable. The coffee was delicious, fresh, and hot. We loved it so much that we went back again the next day for empanadas, pork soup, and chicken soup. Both soups were amazing, but the chicken soup was my favorite. It came with a few pieces of bread, and honestly… we need to talk about this bread for a second. It was light and crispy on the outside, soft and almost cloud-like on the inside, and the flavor was unbelievable. The hint of butter and garlic added such a perfect touch. And that chicken soup? It tasted like something straight out of someone’s grandmother’s kitchen — comforting, homemade, and full of flavor. It felt like home in a bowl. Oh, and yes… I got another Cuban sandwich. If you are visiting Puerto Rico, Panadería España is a MUST. Come hungry because you are going to want everything.
Best bakery in area. Delicious bakery choices and espresso coffee PR style. Also can get hot breakfast and lunch choices. Prices are decent. Walk up cafeteria style, order at counter and pay. Lots of long tables and seating like cafeteria. This place is very busy and is a local favorite. Parking is not easy and usually you have to park down cross street to right of bakery. Definitely a place to enjoy.
Wow! This place was amazing! 🤩 The breakfast selection brought back so many childhood memories. ❤️ I especially loved the vanilla oatmeal—it was absolutely delicious! 🥣 The fresh-baked bread with butter paired perfectly with a hot cup of coffee. ☕🍞🧈 Everything was fresh, comforting, and full of flavor. If you're visiting San Juan, Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, I highly recommend making this one of your breakfast stops. You won't be disappointed! 🌴✨
Here it goes!! Puerto Rico should be proud of this place. They are welcoming food always fresh and loads of goodies. Breakfast, lunch & dinner were all great. Quecitos were amazing with fresh cup of coffee.
Plaza Las Delicias
Roovio — Ponce feels completely different from San Juan.
So beautiful and a great place to take the family to shop, site see and enjoy the amazing culture Puerto Rico has to offer. You can park and walk down many side streets for great food and shopping as well. A great mix of both old and new.
A Beautiful and Historic Gem in the Heart of Ponce! Visiting Plaza Las Delicias was an absolutely wonderful experience! This plaza is the true heart of Ponce — full of charm, color, and Puerto Rican soul. The atmosphere is peaceful and inviting, surrounded by beautiful colonial architecture and some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Parque de Bombas and the Catedral Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. The plaza is clean, safe, and well maintained, with plenty of benches and shade from the old trees. The sound of the fountain, the laughter of families, and the music from nearby cafés make it a perfect place to relax and enjoy the local vibe. It’s the kind of spot where you can sit for hours, people-watching and feeling the rhythm of Puerto Rico’s culture. At sunset, the plaza becomes truly magical — the lights turn on, the sky glows over the cathedral, and the red-and-black stripes of the historic firehouse look stunning. Whether you come for photos, history, or just to unwind, this place will capture your heart. If you visit Ponce, don’t miss Plaza Las Delicias. It perfectly combines history, beauty, and the warmth of Puerto Rican hospitality. One of the most delightful and memorable places I’ve visited on the island. 🇵🇷💛 #PlazaLasDelicias #Ponce #PuertoRico #HistoricPlaza #TravelParadise #ParquedeBombas #OldTownPonce #PuertoRicoVibes #CaribbeanCharm #CulturaBoricua
Plaza Las Delicias is one of the highlights of Ponce. There’s so much to do around the plaza, tons of places to eat, coffee spots, bars, shops, and just a lot of energy throughout the area. It’s a great reminder that there’s a lot more to Puerto Rico beyond San Juan. The plaza itself has a lot of history too and has been the heart of Ponce for generations. You’re surrounded by landmarks like the cathedral and the iconic red and black Parque de Bombas firehouse, which gives the whole area a ton of character. Easy place to walk around for hours and just take everything in.
Plaza Las Delicias in Ponce is a charming and vibrant spot in the heart of the city! The plaza is beautifully maintained, offering a peaceful retreat with its stunning fountains and lush greenery. The architecture surrounding the area, especially the iconic Parque de Bombas and the Ponce Cathedral, is breathtaking and rich in history. It's a fantastic place to experience the local culture, with street artists and musicians often adding to the lively atmosphere. The area is clean, safe, and well-lit, making it perfect for a leisurely evening stroll. A must-visit for anyone in Ponce looking to immerse themselves in the beauty and heritage of the city.
The Central Plaza for the City of Ponce. Each city/town in Puerto Rico has its own plaza and generally there is a Catholic Church, city hall, and business which are nearby. This plaza hold the historic Parque de Bombas, the Church, City Hall and various businesses. As you stroll the plaza they also have a huge fountain and various statues of important iconic people in Puerto Rican history. It is a wonderful community gathering center, often hosting live music and entertainment.
Parque de Bombas
Roovio — Even non-museum people should make this stop.
Great experience and learning. No Charge...love the history. Husband loved it due to him being. Volunteer Firefighter back in the day. A MUST SEE WHEN IN PONCE, PR.
Perfecto 🔥 Aquí tienes un review completo en inglés, positivo y descriptivo, ideal para publicar en Google Maps sobre tu visita al Parque de Bombas en Ponce, Puerto Rico 👇 ⸻ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Must-See Icon of Ponce — Full of History and Charm! Visiting the Parque de Bombas in Ponce was an unforgettable experience. This striking red-and-black building isn’t just one of Puerto Rico’s most famous landmarks — it’s a proud symbol of Ponce’s history, culture, and resilience. From the moment you see it, the unique architecture immediately catches your eye. Originally built in 1882 as the main pavilion for an exhibition, it later became the city’s first fire station — and today it serves as a beautifully preserved museum honoring the brave firefighters who once protected Ponce. Inside, you’ll find vintage fire engines, historical photos, uniforms, helmets, and fascinating exhibits that tell the story of how the station became part of the city’s soul. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always happy to share stories and answer questions. Entrance is free, but donations are appreciated — and it’s absolutely worth visiting. It doesn’t take long to explore, but it leaves a lasting impression. The location couldn’t be better — right next to the Plaza Las Delicias and the Catedral Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, making it easy to explore all three in one stop. The surrounding area is lively, with cafés, local shops, and the warm, welcoming vibe that makes Ponce so special. If you love history, photography, or simply discovering unique cultural sites, Parque de Bombas is a must-visit. It perfectly captures the heart and pride of Ponce. 🇵🇷🚒✨ #ParquedeBombas #Ponce #PuertoRico #HistoricLandmark #PuertoRicoVibes #CulturaBoricua #TravelPuertoRico #OldTownPonce #FirefightersMuseum #CaribbeanCharm
We just did a walk-around of the Parque de Bombas, as we were short on time. The building however is beautiful and vibrant… and set in a lovely city center with restaurants, a fountain, loads of vendors and others shops.
An exceptional complimentary symphonic orchestra performance is held every Sunday in Ponce at 6 PM. Ponce Ciudad Señorial. Free performance
Very informative! The building is approximately 143 years old reserved! It’s amazing that the firefighters didn’t have a pole they had to run down the stairs to provide their services for the town.Great history!
Lola Eclectic Cuisine
Roovio — One of my top three meals of the entire trip.
Great fine dining restaurant! The menu has a good selection and the food is flavorful. The risotto croquettes were our favorite. All the dishes that we ordered were amazing. This place has a beautiful atmosphere, perfect for celebrating special occasions. It was a bit tricky to find the entrance to the restaurant as it is located inside the hotel. You need to enter through the main entrance of the hotel to get here. There is paid parking available in the hotel. The location is great as major tourist attractions are located right in front of the square.
I’ve been here many years ago and decided to stop by again with my daughter and husband. It’s always such a cozy spot for a meal and great drinks. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the bartender, though young, was jo very experienced and friendly, making our experience even better. The food was delicious, and the drinks hit the spot. I’d definitely recommend this place to family and friends. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy good company!
Been in Puerto Rico for 7 days and this is by far the best restaurant. All 5 dishes my family ordered were fantastic!! World class!! And the Lola cocktail was the best cocktail I’ve ever had. We asked to meet the chef, Alejandro, so we could thank him for the amazing dishes. If you thought it couldn’t get better, we ordered the blueberry Mango cobbler (with ice cream) dessert and it was out of this world!! Don’t skip this place, you will be missing something special.
During our visit to the annual Ponce Carnival, we stumbled upon Lola’s while strolling down the street. Seeking a respite from the heat, we opted to relax with a refreshing drink and a light snack. It turned out to be a fantastic choice! The food and beverages were simply amazing! We went for the Carne Asada and the Naan Flatbread—calling them delicious doesn’t do them justice. The flavors were incredibly vibrant, and the presentation was stunning. To cool off, we kicked things off with a Moscow Mule. So impressed with that drink, we couldn’t resist trying a Cosmopolitan and an Old Fashioned next—each one was delightful. The bartender, John, showcased remarkable skill and was a joy to chat with. We can’t wait for our next visit to Lola’s!
Upscale decor and ambiance, intriguing paintings, and a menu with just enough variety. The escargot (paired with mushroom and parmesan cheese crusted on top) came with bread for dipping in the garlicky oil. Good flavors and texture. The Mediterranean salad was fresh, light, and satisfying. Pleasant staff. Would dine here again.
Hacienda Buena Vista - Para la Naturaleza
Roovio — I left with a whole new appreciation for Puerto Rican coffee.
Excellent tour led by Julio, who was very engaging and knowledgeable!! La hacienda is well kept, and the staff was very welcoming!! Thank you so much for the tour. 100% recommend !!
We went with family visiting from NJ. The place is very relaxing and full of history. They gave us a tour explaining every detail of the Hacienda. I recommend it and you must arrive no later than 1:30pm to be able to visit the last tour. The tour is in English. I recommend this place definitely.
Amazing history!!!! Absolutely beautiful!!! The trails are short and manageable. Flora here is incredible!!!
Destination trip fir coffee lovers ! Beautiful Hacienda where you can learn about the coffee history in Puerto Rico! I recommend the hacienda tour to learn about coffee tree farming and how the coffee is processed . Tour ends with coffee testing and the tour guides are very entertaining . The coffee is exquisite with amazing aroma. This was a bucket list item for me and really enjoyed the experience .
A must do , very informative, very educational. Love seeing the coffee trees, they have vanilla trees also.
La Guancha
Roovio — Pelicans, sea breeze, and another ridiculous sunset.
Beautiful! My husband and I were baptized here, so it holds a very important and special place in our hearts! Church retreat and religious services are extremely peaceful here. You feel the presence of God once you start praying! Love it!
Is a nice place to go for a walk, and a drink or something to eat during the day or at night. Security is good and there is plenty of parking. El paseo de la Guancha (the boardwalk) where the kiosks were is closed and will be for a couple of years until they rebuild it after the huricane and the earthquakes damaged it, but visitors can still go and enjoy the place. There are beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea were you can dip your feet or get wet from head to toes. A lot of families go there to enjoy the afternoon and get tje kids to run and play.
Iconic place to visit in Ponce, PR. Beautiful beach, kids park, kiosks with delicious comfort food and drinks, a beautiful marina. Plenty of free parking. Currently under renovation! Update: Our beloved major, Hon. Marlene Sifre, is restoring La Guancha which was destroyed by Huracane María in 2017 and later on by multiple earthquakes. Stay tuned for upcoming renovation pictures and vids.
We visited on a Monday. There was nothing going on but a few couple having private picnics under the trees and enjoying the day. We looked around and took photographs. Nothing much to see as nothing was open. There was no food trucks and they had prisoners there cleaning up. We did enjoy the walk and stretched our legs while snapping a few pics. We did not get the pleasure of seeing any sea turtles which was our reason to visit but it was pleasant. It was free to walk around the grounds and beach.
Went on a weekday and it was peaceful! Part of it is under construction. Beautiful view 😍
Melao Coffee Shop
Roovio — Ended the day with one last coffee before reached to hotel
Melao in Ponce was absolutely fantastic! Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and you can really tell they use high-quality ingredients. I ordered the Chicken Fresh Bowl and added beets, and it was honestly a 10/10. The flavors were delicious, the ingredients were crisp and fresh, and the portion size was perfect. What impressed me even more was how quickly everything came out without sacrificing quality. It’s not always easy to find a place that delivers both fresh food and fast service, but Melao nailed it. If you’re looking for healthy, flavorful food made with quality ingredients, this is the place to go. I’ll definitely be back!
am from caguas and i got invited to this place ,it nice simple and relaxing. loved the burger 🍔 smash burger so! good !! and my wife asked for salmon salad amazing food and clean place . Recommended!!
A very nice cafe that’s part of the Ponce Plaza and Casino Hotel. Ryan is an awesome server.
It’s right in Plaza Las Delicias, which makes the whole experience feel special—you’re literally in the heart of Ponce. The atmosphere is one of my favorite parts. It has that relaxed, lively plaza energy while still feeling comfortable enough to sit and enjoy your time. The staff has always been friendly and welcoming, which makes a big difference. I usually go for breakfast or brunch, and I’ve consistently liked what I order. It’s one of those spots that feels reliable, both in food and overall experience.
The food taste was average and too pricy for the small portion served. Atmosphere is nice and suitable to have a good conversation with friends. Food took an above-average waiting time. There is nothing wow that makes me return. Should management decides to decrease the price of the menu or increase the food portions, we will definitely return.
Café 413
Roovio — Big breakfast before the long west coast ride.
Had breakfast here and it was great. French toast with eggs and bacon. Everything tasted great just as it should’ve. The environment inside was very nice and clean. Pricing wasn’t too bad either. Great place to come check out in the middle of Rincon.
The atmosphere here is great. The staff were very friendly and quick service. The food was delicious and great presentation. Coffee and Chai Latte were amazing! Would absolutely come visit and eat here again! 😎
This is such a cute spot in the square. Limited parking, as expected, but was very walkable. The food was great and really reasonable price. The cortado was smooth and the passion fruit mimosa was delicious. The servers were very nice and we even saw one come outside to give a gatito a piece of ham, which was very sweet.
We went here for brunch and had a pretty good overall experience. For food, we tried a mix of things: • Tofu breakfast on focaccia (3/5): a bit bland and could use more seasoning, but the house-made focaccia was really good. • Veggie burger (2/5): unfortunately quite dry. • Focaccia pizza (4/5): really enjoyed this one. • Eggs Benedict (4.5/5): perfectly cooked and easily one of the best dishes we had. For drinks, we ordered a latte and a macchiato, both were excellent. Their coffee is definitely a highlight. The ambiance is nice, and service was great. The staff was patient, helpful, which made the experience even better. Overall, a good spot for brunch.
Delicious! We stopped here for breakfast based on the reviews and it did not disappoint! They had really good looking pastries that we were hoping to stop by and try but didn’t get a chance to. Definitely check it out if you’re in the area. :)
Rincón
Roovio — Google — Surf-town energy is real here.
The Beach House Rincón
Roovio — Mahi-mahi tacos with an oceanfront table. I could've stayed for hours.
This place is awesome. Stopped here on day one in Rincon. Just happen to tell a waitress I was looking for somewhere to sleep and …. there are rooms right upstairs! Reasonable rates, super clean, spectacular view. The staff is great, the food is great, the vibe is fantastic. Live music on an incredible lookout to the ocean. Great atmosphere every night. feels like home. Kudos to Kevin and all the staff.
Google classified this as a hotel. From what I see, this is just a restaurant, not a hotel. We had dinner with some friends here, and it was a pleasure. We started with an appetizer platter. My wife enjoyed shrimp tacos, while I went for chicken tacos. The service was fantastic, and the atmosphere was wonderful. There was a gentleman playing music, and we had a couple of beers, while the girls sipped margaritas. The food was delicious, the ambiance was fantastic, and the view of the ocean was amazing, especially with the sunset.
I didn't stay at the hotel but I did dine at the restaurant two days ago (April 27, 2026). I ordered an appetizer of the clams. *Chef's kiss* That white wine sauce that they're in was so on point! It was my birthday eve and some other patrons bought me a dessert. I picked the key lime pie and sweet Jesus! It was SOO good. Very refreshing and super tart. My server (forgot his name😣) was very informative and super sweet. He informed the band of my name and they sang happy birthday. It was a good night! I was the last to leave and every employee I walked by wished me a happy birthday! I went at night so I didn't get to see the view of the ocean but it's a perfect location...ocean breeze was plentiful, ambiance was top tier! When I return to PR, I will definitely be back.
We were not at the hotel but at the restaurant. Perfect place to have a delicious meal. The mussels were outstanding and that is not easy to admit outside France. I am French by the way.... We all enjoyed our dishes. The fish tacos and the fresh fish filet hamburger were made with fresh red snapper: perfect! Prices are very reasonable. Don't miss it!
The churrasco pinchos are the best!! Paired with the churrasco quesodillia...best meal on the island. Drinks are great and bartenders and servers are friendly. For someone who works on Puerto Rico, on the west coast , best food you will find!! Thank you Kevin (owner) and Maria, bartender/server. This is my weekly dinner trip.
Domes Beach
Roovio — Great even if you never touch a surfboard.
Plenty of free and easy parking. The spot is pretty, and the trail seems nice and very long! My hubby and I went to sight see and didn’t swim in the water (but this definitely looked more like a surfing beach anyway).
Went to Domes beach in a Sunday just to check it out. Smaller beach that seems to be a surfer favorite, there were many out. Interesting to see and be so close to the old nuclear plant, wish they still toured. Got photos of the light house and walk through some vendors. Nice beach, a little too rocky for us to swim.
Great beach and not overly populated. More secluded and as we took a walking path we found an area where we were the only people on the beach. Felt like we were on our own private island.
One of the best places to surf in Rincon. Reef bottom.. no swimming. Board rentals and surf lessons right on the beach. Ready to park for free. Horse back riding on the beach.
Beautiful beach for surfing and hanging out. No swimming for kids as it is Rocky and big waves. Unless you get lucky and get a calm day. Right next to light house a nice place to walk and relax. There is a restaurant by the lighthouse.
Faro Punta Higueras
Roovio — I actually spotted whales offshore for a few minutes.
Very clean and pretty area. Very soothing and relaxing to listen to the massive waves crashing. Can not go up into the lighthouse. The woman’s restroom had no teepee! And the big binoculars to pay to look out with where ALL broken and just there for decorations. Regardless it’s a great area for picture taking and walking.
This place offers a beautiful views and a peaceful atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for taking photos and unwinding.
Cool spot to check out, the lighthouse is pretty cool they have some vendors on site sometimes and the bar at the end is really fun to check out along with the amazing sunset views
It was hot but is Puerto Rico and this beach is always amazing, the beach the view 100%
Its a wonderful spot with lots of views of the ocean.
Steps Beach - Reserva Marina Tres Palmas
Roovio — This was the sunset of the trip. The whole beach went quiet.
We visited steps once in the winter months, but found the waves to be HUGE, so I was determined to come back in the summer months for some snorkeling… I’m so glad we did! The snorkeling was awesome. There is a ton of bright, colorful reef right off shore. We snorkeled for about an hour and saw a turtle as well as a spotted eagle ray. The parking is free but fills up quickly. You can park along the side of the street and walk along the side of the main road before the last turn. There is also a cool little stone labyrinth just outside of the parking lot to the right. Very cool spot!
We came here for snorkeling with my 4 kids and had so much fun, we spent hours snorkeling and viewing the reef. We seen many cool fish. There is very limited parking, upon entering we went to the left and sat in a shaded area. The rocks are slippery upon entering and there are sea urchins in the coral area, though we didn’t see any near the shallow area, that is always a possibility. We were very careful where we stepped and watched out for sea urchins. I’d suggest water shoes and being very careful. The water was absolutely beautiful though.
A really cool beach off the coast of Rincon, we bought some snorkelling gear from the surf shop right up the road and did some snorkelling. There's one sandy drop-off area to the left of the beach entrance that I recommend you use, since the rest of the reef is extremely rocky and you will get injured if you try to enter/exit the water on the rocks. Really cool being able to snorkel with the fish, and the currents are strong but not too strong such that moderate swimmers should be able to snorkel well.
Spent a Sunday at is locally called Steps Beach due to a set of cement steps that are at the edge of the water. Nice beach, very walkable and a popular spot for snorkeling. We did some snorkeling and found it very easy with little surf or waves. Lots of family and kids.
Super great place for sun and shade. We snorkels and the quality of water was good. Some fish and a barracuda- literally could see fish right on the shore where the rock part dropped off a bit.
Estela Restaurant
Roovio — Relaxed, fresh, and exactly what I wanted after a long day.
Estela continues to impress me every single time. This was my second visit and I already know it won’t be my last. The food was incredible from start to finish. I had one of the specials, the duck ham appetizer, and honestly could have eaten two more orders of it. It was just perfectly executed. The cocktails were also perfectly crafted. We had one that had a sesame seed garnish that elevated the drink to a new level when you take a nibble and a sip together. We were lucky enough to meet Chef Abel Mendoza, who is tremendously talented. His food really transports you and makes you feel joy, cozy, and intrigued all in one bite. I was blown away once again and already can’t wait for my next visit to the west coast. Oh and DO NOT skip dessert!
We had a lovey meal here! Our server was wonderful and the food delicious. Both of us were also impressed by the unique and well-crafted cocktails we had. We will be back next time we are in Rincón!
Don't let the gravel parking lot fool you, this restaurant is topnotch! Every course, from our tasty appetizers phenomenal cocktails to the rich and delicious entrées was excellent. The menu is veg-friendly and the service is sublime.
food didn't really live up to the hype. my friends mamposteao rice was cold when his duck was served. the fish was good, but the portions were small
First time here and absolutely loved it! Loved the outdoor deck seating. Excellent cocktails. And we LOVED the food. For apps we had Brussels sprouts, ceviche and salad - all the flavors were wonderful! The we had steak and catch of the day, both fresh, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Finished with desert (flourless chocolate cake and their take on tembleque) and continued to be impressed! The staff were absolutely a pleasure - Andy, Camilla, bartender Josh (I Think) and a couple others that I didn’t get their names. We also enjoyed spending a few minutes chatting with Chef Abel. We will be back!
Hacienda San Pedro Jayuya
Roovio — Mountain coffee hits differently.
Peace and beauty are the best words to describe this place 👌🏼 oh and great coffee 😁
Fantastic experience from start to finish! The ambiance is beautiful and the staff made us feel so welcome. Highly recommend this place for any occasion.
One of the best coffees in the island, they also have small coffee shops around the metro area if you can’t go to Jayuya, you need to get a taste of their coffee
I am surprised at the high reviews. I expected to see a typical coffee plantation, including a main hacienda, whose aroma speaks to its coffee roots(this is what they advertise) Also I wanted to see how they compared to those in other coffee growing regions. Instead, they have a small dark coffee shop, a store, and a tiny museum. In short, there is nothing worth driving through very dangerous roads to see. Also, they don't give tours any more, which they also advertise! This is fraud
Drove through some of the craziest roads in Puerto Rico to find out that they were close. Even though Google said it was open. People walked by us and nobody said anything. I finally stopped a guy in a forklift and he told me “ahhh they are close.” Didn’t get to tried anything, but I don’t think I’ll ever come back through that crazy journey to find out they are not following their schedule online.
Caguana Ceremonial Indigenous Heritage Center
Roovio — Quiet, fascinating, and one of the least crowded places I visited.
Beautifully preserved and kept site. Small museum with so many artifacts. The stones were amazing. Peaceful place to visit. The return off the mountain was nerve racking though. My first time driving that steep up and down the mountain to leave the area and the roads are very narrow. Our rental was tiny and felt we didn't fit when oncoming vehicles passed us. You basically have to pull over if its safe to let the other vehicle pass and at times there is a steep drop off. That drive is definitely not for the faint of heart!
I absolutely recommend! A great place to connect with the land and our taino ancestors. There is an upstairs, with a great view and recreation of the layout of each batey and a museum on the ground floor. A very friendly women selling natural material jewelry onsight as well. Bring a blanket, spend some time! Hay baños abajo tambien.
Great place to visit very peaceful very informative, staff was wonderful. Learning about the Tainos Indians from the island in this area of Puerto Rico was very informative. So much wanting to share but it is an experience you will have to do personally.
Beautiful place to visit. This is a very special place to see part of the Taino culture.
This place is so beautiful and spiritual that you can actually feel the energy.
Rio Tanama
Roovio — Completely unplanned stop and one of my favorite photos.
You are probably looking to go to the waterfall so search for this on the map "Primera Cascada de La planta" that will take you straight to a parking area where they charge $5 dollars. The first waterfall is a short walk from where you park, the second more impressive fall is a few mins up river. The hike there is not too challenging. The hike is going to be the funnest part of the journey. Bring your phones the pic spots are great
There are two waterfalls here. Getting here was trippy. Reading the other reviews, I agree that GPS/Google will take you through a neighborhood of extremely tight and windy roads. I'm not sure two way traffic is meant for this road, but they make it work. The road dead ends and there was the most incredible lady there (along with a ton of other folks just enjoying their day) guiding traffic and helping with parking. Since there's a mountain next to a one lane road next to a flowing river, it's tight parking. She was extremely helpful and from what I understand this is private property/parking and she's just doing this so things flow better. I believe it was $3 to park. Tip her. We walked the path to the first water fall and as I'm setting up the tripod to take photos, a gentleman came up to us, showing us photos on his camera of the 2nd waterfall. He only spoke Spanish and sadly I didn't understand him, but I understood he was showing me that there was a huge waterfall just up the river a bit. The locals are so proud of their area and eager to show their beautiful island to others. We waded the river about 7 minutes (we're in our 50's, if you're younger you'll go faster) to get to the other fall. The river is slippery and tricky rocks. Wear appropriate shoes. I'm so glad we made the trek, the 2nd fall is absolutely gorgeous! Folks were playing around in the pool below it...just gorgeous. On our way out we met another local who was extremely friendly and we struck up a conversation with him. He explained that if the water from the fall ever turns brown, get out of the river. It's a result of it having rained up the mountain and debris is being washed down. I thought that was extremely helpful advice.
Great place to take your family and friends spend the day away from the heat of the house and have a good adventure with your family at this river.
Early morning visit Best time For your eyes only
Maybe this was cool once upon a time, but this place is a dead end, a bridge is collapsed into the river along with some homes, and like 10 dogs are running around the road. Would not recommend at the moment...
Asao
Roovio — Hidden-gem energy and huge portions.
We visited this meat-focused restaurant as a party of four and were pleasantly surprised. The sampler of blood sausage paired with BBQ ribs was flavorful and well-prepared. The standout was the arroz apastelado, perfectly complemented by crispy smashed fried plantains (tostones). Drinks were on point too, refreshing sangria and a coconut-passion fruit mojito that hit the spot. Service was attentive and friendly, making the overall experience smooth and enjoyable. A solid choice for anyone craving hearty, well-executed Puerto Rican-style meats. If you are in the area help yourself and stop by.
If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and stop here for food. The meats were fall off the bone tender and packed with flavor. A huge parking lot across the street and so many tables to sit at. I didn’t feel cramped at all. The service was also very nice. She checked on us periodically and made sure we were all set. All in all, this place is great and worth a stop.
The scenery is incredible and the food is delicious! The brisket was so flavorful. We will be coming back and bringing friends to enjoy as well. Plus live music!
The place is loud and lively. We drove an hour through the jungle just to have dinner here, and it was absolutely worth it. The people here are very friendly and even helped us with ordering. The food was delicious!
Very, very good grilled and BBQ food. Rustic dinning room but spacious and well ventilated. Rubbed ribs are yummy and also the pork. It's worth the ride to Ciales.
Café Gran Batey
Roovio — I sat here much longer than I intended.
If you are looking for a down-to-earth coffee experience—not glam, but real—this is your place. There is nothing fancy about this place, just real coffee farming and roasting by an amazing non-profit research farm. Our host Daniela gave us personal attention, brewed coffee for us, and told us about the hacienda coffee ☕ history. No glam, but the beauty of the people who are dedicating their lives to care for the land and keep this tradition alive. Daniela, you have our respect for your dedication to your work and amazing coffee.
Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. We drove for an entire hour, including a long and winding mountain road, specifically to visit this place and buy coffee. Google listed their hours as being open until 4:00 PM, so we arrived around 3:30 PM, expecting to quickly stop in and make our purchase. However, the place was already closed. Driving an hour each way only to find the business closed, despite the hours listed on Google, was extremely frustrating. I understand that hours can sometimes change, but it would be helpful to update the hours online so customers don’t make a long trip for nothing.
Great place to visit! Very small coffee farm recovering from the hurricane. Small staff of dedicated people who are very friendly
I highly recommend this place. We happened to stumble upon it. They require an appointment, but when we showed up, we were invited to join the tour. We left the place feeling like part of the family. The coffee is amazing, and I will for sure continue to buy it online since they ship to you.
Lotty and Bernardo are not only kind and welcoming, but master class roasters. They are passionate about what they do and they do it with the environment in mind. BRING CASH to buy the coffee. Don't worry about calling ahead or making a reservation, just drop by and you'll be welcomed with a hot cup of coffee and a tour as if you're part of the family. What a blessing it is to meet and support people like Lotty and Bernardo!
Utuado
Roovio — Google — Picked up a few handmade souvenirs and chatted with a local shop owner.
Casita Miramar
Roovio — Comfort food was the right call.
Not the best experience and our group was excited to try the restaurant on our trip. Even though the manager did come and talk to us and took off our drinks… (and if is appreciated). it was the tone of not believe us about our issue.. sadly. Just left a bad taste. We found a hair in 2 separate plates. And the staff kept clarifying there was no one with hair and that it was too “odd” and made it seem like we put it there. One of them was literally entangled in the salad!! The other on the meat. Things happen. And I wouldn’t discourage from trying the restaurant out. But personally not a good experience.
First time here we tried to get reservations beforehand but they were full. Called same day and they were able to fit us in. Beautiful spot. They have valet parking since parking is limited around there. Server was very nice and welcoming. You are welcomed with complimentary plantain soup and bacalaoitos. Soup was amazing but the bacalaoitos were a little greasy and soggy. We ordered the churrasco which was very good and rice was good. We also ordered the drunken chicken which was good as well. The coquito tres leche was good. They sang Happy Birthday to my son and the one worker made our day he was so comical adding extra to the singing. You end with free shots with the check. Can’t wait to return.
This was our first meal in PR and I don’t know how we will be able to beat it. The service was outstanding, friendly yet not overbearing. The food was on another level, we got the goat stew, the beef plantain and the seafood salad each one was delicious. We also received a complimentary plantain soup and cod fritters which elevated the experience even more. This is a MUST go when visiting San Juan.
The atmosphere was great and I really enjoyed my dinner here, the food was a bit pricey, but the food reflects that as everything is plated beautifully. The entrees were $30 and appetizers were ~$15. Some points are taken off because they charged us $7 for a fancy bottle of water without asking and the menu said the majado was $8 and we were charged $10. (Perhaps this should be expected from a more upscale establishment, but I personally would have liked to have been served tap, maybe I’m in the minority. The tres leches was to DIE for though, cannot recommend enough. I would go to the restaurant just to have the tres leches.
The food was not great. Empanadas, we did not like, conch writers not great, soup was about salty but we ate it. Our kids only ate the fries, not the meat. They said it was not good tenders were over fried. The waitress was nice. This place is over rated honestly... I wouldn't go back. The food is fairly expensive but the taste is not amazing just eatable...
Café Cuatro Sombras
Roovio — Took my time because I wasn't ready to leave.
Café Cuatro Sombras was one of the best breakfast spots we visited in Puerto Rico. The coffee was exceptional—rich, smooth, and full of flavor. You can tell they take pride in every cup they serve. They also roast their own beans!! The food was just as memorable. The oatmeal with guava was absolutely delicious, comforting, and unlike anything I've had before. The salmon avocado toast was fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. Everything we ordered tasted fresh and was prepared perfectly. The café has a beautiful atmosphere with a great mix of modern style and Old San Juan charm. The staff was welcoming, the service was excellent, and the entire experience was outstanding. If you're visiting Old San Juan, do yourself a favor and stop by Café Cuatro Sombras. Whether you're a coffee lover or just looking for an amazing breakfast, this place is definitely worth the visit. We can't wait to come back!
Cuatro Sombras didn’t disappoint! I turned to my fellow Yelp reviewers to find a local coffee shop with authentic Puerto Rican coffee and it was perfect! The coffee was smooth and the cortado worth trying. I had plain avocado toast and had them suggest another pastry to try - they suggested the guava croissant however I didn’t know it came with ham and cheese (I don’t do pork). They quickly and kindly refunded it and offered me a croissant with plain guava butter. It’s VERY sweet (but delicious) so next time I would get it on the side. There are two sides - one more bar like vibe and one more coffee shop vibe. It was a really great spot to stop on our visit!
Café Cuatro Sombras in Old San Juan was such a great spot! The food was fresh and delicious, and the iced latte was made just right smooth, refreshing, and full of flavor. The perfect place to stop for a good meal and coffee while exploring Old San Juan. Definitely worth a visit!
A peaceful gem in the heart of Old San Juan. This spot offers delicious coffee, a great variety of breakfast items, and a fantastic selection of sweet pastries. The quesito is a must-try! While it can get quite busy, the friendly staff and calm atmosphere make it an ideal retreat for friends, couples, or solo travelers. Slow service so please be prepared
We came to this café with pretty high expectations based on the reviews, but it didn’t quite live up to the hype. The location is great, but overall it felt a bit overrated and overpriced for what you get. The staff was okay, but not particularly welcoming, which didn’t help the experience. Here’s what we tried: • Hummus sandwich (3.5/5) • Cuatro Sombras sandwich (3.5/5) • Latte with caramel + vanilla (3.5/5) Everything was decent, but nothing really stood out. Overall, it’s an okay spot.
The Mall of San Jaun
Roovio — Coffee, handmade crafts, and the gifts I would've regretted skipping.
This mall is good as others are in Puerto Rico. All they have is high end stores. The mall is great and has a lot of shops, cool AC and even lots of free parking and plenty of restrooms.
Very high end mall. The only thing I could afford was Bath and Body Works and a few other things.
I love this shopping center. I always find parking space, not like Plaza las Americas. They don’t have many stores because it’s a high end shopping but they have designers, ateliers also Zara and H&M.
This was a very nice 2 story mall. There are a few restaurants here if you want to eat because there is no food court to my surprise. They also have a large pickles all inside the mall where you can play and compete. Large area in the middle of mall with Starbucks and charging station for phone and laptops.
Came for the fish and tostones. Wow, was it a NEVER AGAIN kind of experience. The fish was cold, the tostones were so hard I could play hockey with them. Our waiter paid more attention to his coworkers than our table. Did I mention the ATTITUDE he gave us AFTER asking for a fresh plate? My two year son isn’t a picky eater BUT here, the food was a NO. We’re paying for an experience and this one is a NO. You’re better off eating at the food court.
Castillo San Cristóbal
Roovio — Perfect final fortress and an excellent last view over the city.
Excellent visit to Castillo San Cristobal. Admission is $10 but is also good for admission to the nearby Castillo San Felipe del Morro within one day of your visit here. So be sure to take advantage of this perk. The castle contains some great exhibits providing details on its history. It also offers some really amazing views of the streets and buildings Old San Juan...very unique. Note that there are some hills (some steep) and steps throughout the castle and its grounds...so pre prepared and wear comfortable shoes. Great location just steps from the streets of Old San Juan with tons of food options and other attractions. A short walk from the cruise port.
The little brother of the two forts, but no less impressive. The views are spectacular. Make sure to find the spiral staircase to the upper level. You won't regret that trek. Remember, one pass ($10) gets you into both places for the day. Make sure to take the trip to both. Walk between them and see Old San Juan!
Something about my brain can’t comprehend how a structure this old is still standing. It is really incredible to see in person. The Castillo has inside and outside portions, but plenty of spots to hide from the sun or a quick storm. You get some good breezes outside too. They are doing more work in preserving artifacts so that is cool too. It is a small fee off $10 per adult but you can also use that to get entrance to the other part of the fort that’s about a 10 min walk away so it’s a good deal. There are bathrooms and a water fountain in the main entrance.
On a Wednesday morning in January, I first spent a couple of hours going through all the levels of Castillo El Morro, then walked over to San Cristobal. It takes around 20 minutes on foot. Then spent 45-50 minutes at this smaller castle. Had to rush a bit because I had a flight soon. Entry is free if you have the National Parks Pass. Worth a visit in addition to El Morro. The long tunnel walks, and the slit viewpoints (probably for machine gunners) are pretty unique to San Cristobal. There are signs throughout, so it's easy to know what's remaining to see.
Castillo San Cristóbal was the first historical site we visited in San Juan, and it was the perfect choice to start our trip. Since it sits at the eastern gate of the city, it provides an incredible vantage point and a clear view of the entire entrance to the Old Town. • Price: Only $10 per person • The Views: You get stunning panoramic views of the coastline and the colorful streets of Old San Juan. • Experience: It’s well-preserved and offers a deep dive into the military history of Puerto Rico.
Deaverdura
Roovio — My final Puerto Rican meal had to include arroz con gandules and roast pork.
It opened about 15 minutes after 11am scheduled time. The Pernil was excellent. Order in small portions to taste first. Some items are better and some. The Arroz con gandules and Pernil was great. The sampler was nice too. Enjoy.
If you want authentic Puerto Rican food this is your place. We had the mixed platter as we didn't want to miss out on anything. This was a great choice and it gave us a variety of selections / flavours .. would highly recommend the platter if you're indecisive. Highlight was the rice, pulled pork, plantains .. there was other small fried nibbles that I don't know the names of but they were all nice / tasty. Please be mindful that the restaurant is relatively small therefore on busy days, expect to wait before being seated.
I had a day in Puerto Rico before a cruise and wanted some authentic Puerto Rican food. I definitely went to the right place. I wasn’t too hungry, so I kept it simple with chicken pasteles. Chefs kiss!!! I also had tostones on the side - delicious!
Reviews for this place are polarized. After eating here, I understand why. I can tell from the food that a good chef built the menu at one point. Currently the place is an operational disaster. Customers and staff all look miserable. Food arrived cold, although the flavors were still quite good. There’s a sauce that tastes like pineapple, avocado, and chili, and pairs really well with the pernil. The skirt steak was delicious and very flavorful. Everything takes forever. The line is long because emptied tables go 20 minutes before getting cleared and patrons wait 10 minutes for their check, etc. I would avoid this place until there’s some indication it’s functional again, and I bet when that happens you can have a really good experience here.
Must try for those wanting to taste authentic Puerto Rican food. We’ve tried a bunch of places and this place was by far our favorite. Definitely get the sampler platter which can range from 2-4 people so easy to share depending on the number of people you have in your party. When we went we only had one server managing the whole restaurant so the wait was long but worth it. We went 40 min after it opened. Waited about 35 min. Great food, menu changes daily.
Paseo de la Princesa
Roovio — Google — No agenda, just one last slow walk.
Barrachina
Roovio — Felt like the right closing ritual.
Luis Munoz Marin International Airport
Roovio — Spent the wait scrolling through hundreds of photos.
Luis Munoz Marin International Airport
Roovio — Seven days were enough to fall in love with Puerto Rico, but definitely not enough to feel finished with it.
