The Route I'd Recommend to First-Time Visitors

Got to the airport around midnight. Ready to navigate clean airport. Bathroom were clean. Uber pick up was from B 19-20 area. Since landed in PR, its been a great experience.

One of my least favorite airports. The restaurants are a mix of American fast food: dominoes, popeyes; international fare: ramen, Spanish; and gas station food. And it's so expensive. Yes airports are expensive, but it's expensive and unsatisfying. Then the duty free is a waste of time. You can get the same items on the island and just pack it in your bag and save a bunch of money. And the security is super relaxed. I have a subdermal device that always get me pat down. I went through, they asked if I had a necklace, I said yes, and they cleared me. The airport isn't bad, it's just not good and spending time there isn't fun.

Cruise Passenger Magnet Many travelers heading to Caribbean cruise departures at Port of San Juan arrive through SJU. 8. Airport Size The airport spans roughly 1,600 acres, compact but efficient, with runways long enough for wide-body jets. 9. US Territory Advantage Even though it feels like a tropical escape, SJU is a U.S. domestic airport. No immigration for U.S. citizens arriving from the mainland. 10. Art and Island Vibes Inside, you’ll find an airport dotted with Puerto Rican art, bright colors, and that unmistakable island warmth the moment you land.

Great airport. Best advice be there 2 to 3hr early just to be on the safe side. Just please wary of one of elevators to the terminals it will get stuck especially trying to get out. Follow these steps when at the airport have your bags go threw scanner so they can yellow tag it, then go to the counter and have your bag checked in after that you have to get in line for TSA, it can be really quick so just be patient and you shall make it to your flight.

I was flying out of Terminal A at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, and honestly the experience getting in was rough. With everything going on around the government shutdown, TSA was extremely slow—long lines and pretty chaotic just to get through the initial checkpoint. Definitely give yourself extra time. The airport itself feels older and a bit worn down. It could really use a refresh. That said, once you’re inside, there are actually a lot of solid food options for breakfast and lunch, plus some good shopping and local snacks. On the bright side, flights seem to run pretty smoothly and leave on time, which helps make up for the hassle getting in. Not my favorite airport, but it gets the job done for the area.

Renting from Alamo was easily one of the best decisions I made during my trip to Puerto Rico. I originally reserved an SUV because we planned to drive all over the island and wanted something comfortable. When I got there, I noticed they had a few Jeeps available, so I asked one of the employees if it was possible to switch. She checked with the office, and to my surprise, they upgraded me to a Jeep at no extra charge, even though Jeeps normally cost more. That Jeep ended up making the trip even better. We had an absolute blast driving around the island with the doors off and taking in all the amazing scenery. It was the perfect way to explore Puerto Rico. We also decided to stay an extra day in Cabo Rojo, and Alamo made it super easy to extend the rental. There was an extra charge, which was completely fair and expected, and the process was quick and hassle-free. Returning the Jeep was just as easy. They checked the mileage, looked at the fuel level, did a quick walk-around inspection, asked if I had any issues, and that was it. The whole experience was smooth from start to finish, and the customer service was excellent. If I ever go back to Puerto Rico, I'll definitely rent from this Alamo location again. This is the 6th time I rent at this location and is always the best. This time I ended up driving this Jeep Wrangler. I appreciate to Ginellys who made this experience the best. Also Thanks to Ezequiel and the manager Aida in the return area. Highly recommended to pre-pay for the fuel. It will save you time and money. It has been one of the best experiences ever!!! A jeep is a must have on the island for exploring anywhere: great vehicle. Excellent gas mileage. Seamless pick up and drop off. Booked through capital one travel and got fair price. Don’t forget to get fuel: it is 125 bucks if returned low or empty. Very friendly staff who speak English and Spanish

Excellent experience from start to finish. The pickup process was fast and easy, the staff was very friendly and professional, and the vehicle was clean and in great condition. Returning the car was just as quick and hassle-free. Everything went smoothly, and I would definitely rent from Alamo again. Highly recommended!

Great picking up the vehicle. Great gas mileage traveling the island. Easy process. I stayed in the middle of the island deep in the country. Had a issue with the truck and they brought me another right away with no issues. Great job

I was using reward nights for this stay and was hoping to stay at the stellaris resort down the way— they didn’t have award availability. I am glad we ended up here. Super chill hotel. The pool area was lovely but mostly we went to the beach. (It is a few block walk but it worked out because we could stock up on beach snacks and drinks at the pharmacy). The room was clean and bed was comfortable. We could see and hear the ocean from our balcony. My only complaint is lighting by the mirror above the sink is poor. My make up was probably a wreck all week. I would definitely stay again. We stopped into the stellaris (and lost all our casino money in five minutes) and are glad we chose the ac.

The service in this hotel is simply impecable. I’ve traveled to many countries and stayed in a lot of hotels and this crew at the AC Hotel in San Juan is outstanding and extraordinary. All of them but I want to mention Iraida y Paola who went the extra mile. They should teach a class. The rooms are also clean and comfortable like the rest of the common areas. Their breakfast has a variety of food and is good. They are like a 5 min walk to the beach and offer complementary umbrella, towels and water. 100% recommended, I would definitely come back.

Everything about this hotel was as advertised. Good location for shops and food. Walking distance to the beach. I gave a 4 star because, when me and my wife were trying to enjoy the pool, the pool person came and cleaned the pool. I noticed that he did the same thing when others were trying to enjoy the pool. Does the pool really need that much treatment everytime someone gets in it? But I was there for a week and enjoyed my stay.

We stayed at the AC Hotel Condado in San Juan from April 25 to May 2. As Marriott Rewards members, we wanted a Marriott property, and we liked that this one was close to Isla Verde. We also considered the San Juan Marriott Resort and the Courtyard by Marriott, but the AC Hotel seemed like the best location for us. After visiting all three Marriott properties during our trip, the AC was definitely the quietest. That mattered to us, and we appreciated that the rooftop pool area was never overcrowded. We arrived around 10:00 p.m., and check in was quick. The front desk staff were friendly throughout our stay. The only surprise was the mandatory 45 dollar daily destination fee, which had to be spent at the hotel each day. If you did not use it, it was lost. We felt it limited our ability to support local restaurants and shops. Our eighth floor room was spacious, with a living room, a bedroom, and a balcony. The only downside was the thermostat, which had strict limits, so the room always felt warm. The partial ocean view was excellent, and we could hear the waves, even though the hotel is not directly on the beach. There are roosters in the area, so we got early wake up calls at 5:00 a.m., but we eventually tuned them out. Housekeeping was outstanding. Our room was cleaned before noon every day, and it always looked like we had just checked in. It was some of the best housekeeping we have experienced at a Marriott property. The rooftop pool was a great feature. It was busy, but never overwhelming, and we always found a place to sit. The food and beverage staff were friendly, although there were no poolside servers. Most mornings, we ate breakfast at Sobao. The food was delicious, and the dining room was lively. The only confusing part was the two separate lines for ordering. The one disappointing experience was at La Bodeguita. Even though there were open tables, we were told to sit at the bar, and the bartender never returned to take our order. After about twenty minutes, we left and went to Bar C Lona on the rooftop. It was crowded, and only one bartender was working, but she was friendly, and the food was great. Overall, we loved the location, the room layout, the housekeeping, the front desk staff, the rooftop pool, and Sobao. We were less happy with the destination fee, the rooster wake up calls, the thermostat limits, and the service at La Bodeguita. We would consider staying at the AC Hotel Condado again, but next time we may try the San Juan Marriott Resort or the Courtyard by Marriott Miramar for the direct beach access.

Let's start with the staff. Staff was great. Everyone was professional, courteous and very nice. The location: although I have limited knowledge of the area it seems to be located very central to most stuff in San Juan. Just a short 10 mins walk to the beach The room: It was a nice huge room. I like the fact that there was no carpet or rugs in the room. That makes it easier for clean up with sand and stuff from the beach. My only issue was the bed. It had dips in it like it had been slept on for a long time or just worn out. Which made it uncomfortable. It definitely wasnt what I have come to expect from hotels associated with the Marriott brand. But the front desk said they would be sure to address it.

Disappointed and concerning Tostado – Condado has been a coffee shop we frequent with Luna my dog, my wife, and now our newborn. They’ve always been dog-friendly and welcoming, at least with us. Today, new staff who didn’t recognize us refused to let us in. Even after explaining that we are locals who regularly support the shop and showing proof that Luna is a service dog, they denied entry. They were also pushy in asking what specific service Luna provides — something staff are not legally permitted to demand under ADA guidelines. Both the hostess and the manager she called in to assess the situation. Shameful. We truly miss Liz, who managed this place with professionalism and care for her community. Tostado, do better. Our business with you is over. Special shout out to Granos Café Bar next door who received us with open arms, I strongly suggest to move your business there.

Good brunch options with decent coffee. We were looking for a sweet bruch option for my daughter's 15th. The French Toast really hit the spot for her. I was very happy that there was the option to build my own dish as I wasn't terribly hungry. We all enjoyed our meals and I was happy with my latte (and I have high Aussie standards on my coffee). Staff were helpful, nice, and attentive.

Do you know what it is to have someone make you a coffee with so much love? Just had the BEST iced mocha. Luis received our large order with patience and then he also prepared the best coffee! A beautiful restaurant with amazing, traditional Puerto Rican cuisine! Keep in mind they don't take reservations, so the wait can be long (our party of 8 waited about 1 hr 45 mins), but it is 100% worth it. Our waiter was dressed in beautiful traditional attire and gave us excellent menu recommendations. The food was delicious, well-priced, and the portions were great. Even when one of our guests' orders was accidentally forgotten, they corrected it and had it out within 10 minutes. They have a dedicated kids' menu and vegetarian options, too. I would definitely recommend Raíces if you're visiting Old San Juan!

Hola Darlings I had dinner at Raíces, and overall it was a good meal! The food was good, though the service was just okay since things were a bit slow. For appetizers, we had the croquetas de bacalao. For the main, I got the Kan Kan chop, it was a huge portion that could easily feed two people. The table next to me was raving about the seafood paella, so I would definitely try that next time. This is a good spot if you're not in a rush!

I visited the restaurant twice while visiting. I can say that had I reviewed the restaurant on day one, it would have been five stars. Day one ordered the carne mofongo and the side salad. Everything was delicious. The mofongo was creamy and warm. The Moore chunks could have been smaller as it was a bit difficult to bite into for me. I didn’t have a knife to cut them and it would have been a challenge to do so since I didn’t have a flat surface to cut it on. The side salad with mango vinaigrette was amazing. I also ordered three sauces as this selection is not served with one, garlic, creole and chimmichuri. Service was excellent! Today’s meal and service were the complete opposite. The food was not hot at all. The mofongo tasted like cold french fries. I was very disappointed. The service was very mediocre. While placing my order I asked for the sauces on the side and the server immediately said it doesn’t come with one. Well, I was aware. I was making a request which I knew would incur additional charges. I continued to be polite yet my thanks yous were not appreciated. Overall, it was ok. I would love to know who the chef was on Wednesday, 12/10, because that food was on point. Friday, 12/12, not so much.

Great presence of culture. Our waiter was straight up and felt very honest about the food. An order of cod fritters, corn sticks, 1 snapper mofongo, 1 shrimp mofondo, a seafood paella, fish tacos, and 3 mojitos later and we were in love with Puerto Rican flavors. It’s like soul food and we all loved it.

Terrible food and even worse service – avoid this place! The beef had a strange liver/organ taste and texture. The fried pork was just okay in flavor, but it was rock hard – I felt like I’d be chewing it for the rest of my life. The pork skin was tougher than a shoe sole. Seriously, don’t order it. Service was a nightmare. We sat down for a while and no one came to give us water or menus. They only serve bottled water (didn’t check if they charged for it, but wouldn’t be surprised). The male waiter acted like he was God’s gift – taking our order with his hands in his pockets like he was too cool to care. We couldn’t finish the food, so we asked for some hot sauce – twice. He never brought it. Oh, and our plates still had greasy residue from being poorly washed. Do yourself a favor: don’t waste your money here.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to learn about the history of Puerto Rico, make sure you check out this location. For just $10 a person, access is granted to explore the grounds of this castle and during the time I went, your ticket was good for two days. When visiting, I would highly suggest wearing sneakers, and bringing water when touring. They do have a small gift shop on location that you can also purchase small items. Due to the beauty of this castle, it is also a great opportunity to grab some photos. The views are breathtaking and worth the visit. I would highly recommend.

Such an amazing experience visiting this place. All the history behind it was phenomenal to learn. It makes you think about all the injustices the puerto rican people have been going through with such resilience. I do recommend going as they open or later in the afternoon before they close because walking there with no shade is no joke. Lol. Make sure to wear a hat and shades. The entrance fee was resonable for all the things you get to see. It should be around 2-3 hours depending on if you read all the signs with the history or just walk through. 100% would recommend! Visited here while vacationing in Puerto Rico. We had to park in old San Juan and it was a long walk in the heat so make sure you wear your walking shoes and breathable clothes otherwise you'll just spend your time trying to stop the sweat. Plenty of cool places to stop while making your way up to the castle. Hope yall enjoy the history!

beautiful lawn and also iguanas! Very aesthetic architecture and the views do not disappoint. The walk towards the castle is amazing. The smooth green grass, kites flying, ocean in the back it’s all so beautiful. Too bad there seems to be some construction going off on part of the lawn but meh wasn’t that big of a deal

This 16th century, Spanish Fort is amazing. It has breathtaking views everywhere you turn, many ramparts, tunnels, and many levels. It’s very well maintained and clean. Give yourself at least two, maybe three hours to explore this beautiful Fort, the surrounding lawns and walkways and pathways. There’s lots to see in the fort and outside the fort. If you walk and approach across the huge front lawn to the main gate, you can go back to town along the sea walk where you will spot large iguanas and semi wild cats. This is a must see if you’re in old San Juan, you can’t miss it.

The ambiance in this place is amazing - hip, beautiful, trendy - exactly what we wanted. Like the reviews say, bottled water is indeed $8. Ask for tap if you don't want to pay for it. Every dish we had was interesting and excellent. The ceviche was amazing, even though it said sweet potato and had corn nuts - we didn't mind as they were such a unique addition and so tasty. Don't skip the snapper! We picked the bones clean, it was so good! The sauce in the chicken was incredible. And the icing on the cake was the Nutella sandwich. Who knew?? Definitely try this super simple dessert. Absolutely ridiculous how good it was! Excellent visit.

I was deciding between Santaella and another restaurant for my birthday dinner, and ultimately chose Santaella because of the incredible reviews and because it felt like a good compromise for my husband. I made the reservation myself and specifically noted that it was my birthday. I also arrived wearing a birthday crown, so it was pretty clear this was a special occasion. Unfortunately, throughout the entire dinner I never heard a “happy birthday,” and even the dessert I ordered did not come with a candle or any acknowledgment. This may seem like a small thing, and normally it would be — but when you travel to a destination for your birthday and the dinner is the big finale of the trip, those little touches matter. I have been to Michelin-starred restaurants where a simple candle and birthday greeting were included, and it made the experience feel memorable. The food was good, and the presentation was beautiful. It is definitely very “internet worthy” and visually impressive. However, the overall experience felt more focused on presentation than hospitality. If you are looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion, I would set expectations accordingly. For me, this was a missed opportunity to make a birthday celebration feel special.

Don't judge it by its exterior, once you step inside, you're transported to a beautiful oasis that's perfect for a date night or a group dinner before an evening of fun. We ate at the bar for lunch. Their cocktails are amazing and the food selections are very innovative, yet still approachable. The serving sizes are also surprisingly generous. There were so many appealing options - we had trouble choosing just a few. We would love to go back again and again. Very highly recommended as a spot to try when in San Juan.

I was visiting San Juan and taking a stroll in La Placita, Santurce. Stopped by Santaella for lunch at the bar. The Morcilla was superb! I love how they mixed the rice in the sausage. The Pulpo was cooked perfectly. I also had a martini and their Albariño wine. Met a local couple, who seemed like regulars at this place, and we had a great conversation. They were very kind and hospitable...treated me with a glass of wine! Service was A+++.

I walked a little bit and I found Sobao! This bakery has this fun secret restaurant that’s like super dark but cool. The Quesiilo was so incredibly good. The people are very attentive. I felt like this was a good place to go if you were a student and wanted a place to hang out. I saw a lot of professional people hanging out and enjoy the place the coffees are small, which is great. Please understand this is not your typical coffee shop but in a lot of ways it’s better.

We tried the Caprese and Chipotle Chicken sandwiches. Both were good, but not amazing. Bread was fresh, however quality seemed on the cheaper side. Certainly not the gourmet bread you'd expect to find at a bakery. Vanilla cupcake was dry and stale, unfortunately. Great service and nice atmosphere, but floor and tables were pretty dirty. Certainly better bakery options in the area.

i really wanted a mallorca since i first got back a week ago, and im so so glad i waited. it was so soft and fresh. each bite was better than the next, and it was very filling. portions run a bit small, and prices are a bit elevated, but it's definitely worth it. i went sunday, and there was a bit of a wait, nothing crazy. they give you a number and you wait at your table which is nice. everything here has good quality control. love this location. . me encanta esta franquicia, la comida siempre es buena y esta localizacion tiene un restaurante también. el parking es al lado del edificio y algunas veces se llena. todo limpio y la gente bien nice.

Very nice place, great variety of sandwiches and desserts. I tried the pastrami sandwich and it was really delicious, fresh bread and quality ingredients. Now, the sandwich portion is not to satisfy your biggest appetite, much less for lunch time. Now I don't usually drink soda, but I found the price for a fountain soda excessive at $3.25 for a 21oz glass, at least for me. The service was good, but not the best. The place is good yes, it is a little expensive compared to other places.

Highly recommend the Mallorca con jamón, queso, y huevo (topped with powdered sugar). The media noche sandwich was also really good. Their iced lattes were excellent. We’ll definitely come back!

Such a beautiful spot. I spent a few hours hiking and honestly could've stayed even longer. Wear good shoes because some of the trails can get pretty slippery, and try to get there early before it gets too crowded.

So many things to do! So beautiful. Highly recommend. Multiple waterfalls that are must see. No entry fee. Parking can be a little tricky so recommend to get there early. Britton hike was a little steep going up but worth it.

Absolutely beautiful!! The waterfalls, rainbows, animals and nature. Such a beautiful place to visit. If you decide to go, wear comfortable clothes and shoes for walking. They also have tours available if you chose not to walk. Either way it is a gorgeous experience!

Amazing! Beautiful rainforest. We'll maintained and accessible. Staff at the visitor center were friendly and the facility was clean, informative, and offered great information. Highly recommend visiting. There are frequent locations to pull off and see various sites. Was easy to navigate for first time visitors but roads are narrow, so use caution when driving.

What an absolutely beautiful place! We really enjoyed the visitors center and then the drive up through the rainforest! This is a must do, especially if you love nature, hiking, waterfalls,and seeing breathtaking views!

El Yunque is a must see. But you better get there early. We did get there early and went directly to el portal to get a lay of the land. We did Juan Diego falls (go all the way!). You will get muddy but that’s half the fun. Took a look at Coco Falls. Pretty and no energy expended. E climbed the Hokalu Tower. Fine views! E would have hiked up to Mount Britton tower but impossible to park. 😠 then finished with a hike/swim to Angelito Falls. Very nice and popular swimming holes. All in all - well worth the visit.

We visited the tower during our visit to El yunque national forest. The access to rainforest opened around 8am. We captured early sunlight over the forest it looked so beautiful. The climb up to the tower is short and gives a good view of the forest.

We stopped at the tower after a rainy hike in El Yunque to another tower. The inside was a little wet due to rain and mud on people, but the top was beautiful! There were a lot of steps to climb, but it was worth it. Even in the fog, there was a view of so much lush greenery and mountains, and the cool breeze felt great. There is a parking lot right next to the tower, so easy access!

A must do! Views are unattainable unless you do the climb. Easy, wide steps, and the reward Is Amazing. It's free, and we'll worth the short climb. As you go up, there are windows at every level. Each perspective is wonderous. Highly recommend. On bottom Floor, there is a very tiny shop to buy water, shirts and small souvenirs. You can also find a hand washing station in the parking lot, where you foot pump your water! Highly recommend.

Overall great experience. We did not tour with a guide, you seriously don’t need one. It’s less than a 5 minute walk from the street but it is a very steep and rocky trail, you’ll need both hands, if you have any sort of physical limitations you may have a lot of difficulty. I would NOT even try it after a heavy rain! Yes, the young men out front will charge you $10 and tell you it’s private property. Obviously, the river is not private property….but the house and lot where you are offered parking with the quickest access to river is private. They are allowing you to park there for a fee and will watch your vehicle. Honestly, not much choice because it’s a very winding narrow street with minimal parking available. So pay the $10 and be on your way…it’s worth it and they are making honest money. The river itself and waterslides are beautiful, not very deep. Several rocks to jump from at about 6’ deep. Unless you really really don’t know how to swim, you won’t need a life vest. Yes, there are fish but they don’t bite or bother. People come and go, including larger tour groups. No bathrooms or concessions nearby that we saw, but just down the road there’s a little convenience store / bar called El negocio Las Pailas. He sometimes also has food, just ask if you don’t see any food out. And right next door is a very cute house rental called the Riverside Cottage ☺️ where we had the best comfortable stay with our own River access.

$10 to park $1 per person Water shoes help with the slippery rocks highly recommended. Very muddy wear something you dont care about. If you have kids I would recommend getting a tour guide but you do not need one to participate. Other than that the pictures speak for themselves. ❤️

⚠️ Do not support this place. This is not a legit entrance—it’s a setup targeting tourists. A group of men stop you on a public road and charge whatever they think you’ll pay. If you question it, they get aggressive, show guns, and threaten to tow your car. The “good reviews” are misleading—those are people going with locals or groups already connected to them. Show up on your own and it’s a completely different story. You have no way of knowing who actually owns what, and they use that confusion to pressure and intimidate people into paying. Locals confirmed the road and street parking are public, yet they still charge and push it as far as they can. This isn’t El Yunque. Drive a few minutes further and you’ll reach the real entrance without dealing with armed scammers. If you go here, you’re supporting people who intimidate tourists with weapons for money. Avoid it.

So much fun sliding down the rocks, jumping off rocks and swimming in the pools between the rapids! Its easy to get to, $10 to park and $1/person, so extremely reasonable! The walk down is easy, but a little steep. Coming back up was a little strenuous because it was steep, but it isnt long. Heck, there was a guy on crutches at the bottom when we got there!

It is located 40 minutes drive away from the harbour. If it was raining the water will be dirty and the flow will be too hard - not possible to swim. You can still walk there and take some pictures, but be prepared to get muddy.

We ate dinner here for our first night during our recent stay in Puerto Rico, and it definitely set the bar and standard of expectations for our trip! Located at the far west end of the Luquillo Kiosks, this place didn’t disappoint. The service was great considering it was a Friday night and place was extremely busy. We had the grouper and mahi mahi in the butter and cream sauce, stuffed pork medallions, and fried shrimp and it was all delicious. The pork was a little dry, which is unfortunate but it came with a delicious red wine and guava reduction. Which there was a little more of that sauce, but I’m just being picky. Also, they had this cold bean side salad that was sooooo good! I’ve tried making it at home and can’t seem to dial it in. Seems like this is a popular place for locals as it looked like we were the only tourists. Parking can be a bit tricky, but be patient, go with the flow, and don’t be afraid to walk if you have to. There is a small lot off the main drag right next to the restaurant, but we consider ourselves lucky that we got a spot in there. If you only have time for one dinner at the kiosks, you won’t regret picking La Parrilla!

Very friendly staff. Great food. We enjoyed the outdoor patio seating. The bartender is meticulous with his craft. Good pricing on lobster. Oysters are expensive. The shark nuggets were extremely tender and good. Nice atmosphere.

The grouper in heavy cream was amazing. Soft and flavorful with nice side of crispy papa fritas. The tostones filled with lobster were a bit dry but also flavorful. We also got a steak mofongo. The mofongo was dry and hard, we had to slowly poke and jab at it to get it to break into bite sized pieces. There wasn’t much flavor to it even when mixed with the mushrooms and meat. The steak was very juicy though so that was nice. Service was very nice from all staff members that helped us! And waters were refilled without needing to ask which was a nice gesture. Wait time was also really good, maybe only 10-15 or so minutes for the food The mango rum smoothie drink was refreshing and I highly recommend!

What a fantastic experience at La Parrilla! From the moment we walked in, everything exceeded expectations. The food was absolutely outstanding. The Creole mofongo was packed with flavor, the garlic shrimp mofongo was exceptional, and the steak was clearly a premium cut, cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. The atmosphere was another highlight. Great energy, welcoming vibes, and the kind of place where you immediately feel comfortable and want to stay awhile. The staff was incredible throughout the entire experience, friendly, attentive, and genuinely focused on making sure every guest had a great time. A special shoutout to the manager, who truly made the magic happen. You can tell when a restaurant has strong leadership behind it, and it showed in every aspect of the experience, from the service to the food quality to the overall hospitality. If you're looking for amazing Puerto Rican cuisine, a great atmosphere, and a team that knows how to take care of its guests, La Parrilla is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back!

La Parrilla is truly one of the best seafood restaurants around. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. You can really taste the quality in every dish. The location is beautiful and makes the whole dining experience even better. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing, perfect for enjoying a great meal with family and friends.

Out past the rainforest we drove about an hour from our hotel at the recommendation of another beach goer and local. This beach had lots of activities, including jet ski rental. Lots of food vendors. They even have waiters to deliver your cold beverages and food. The chair and umbrella guys are quick. One thing to remember is that chair and umbrella rentals on the beach are generally CASH ONLY!

Gorgeous!!! We had a wonderful time at this beach. We stayed in Fajardo and enjoyed the quick drive to Luquillo. Lots to see here in the sand. We found fish and some beautiful flowers.

I give them more like a 4 1/2 star rating. We only ordered a few fried fritters to go. What I did like about this location was some of the fritters are cooked at that moment. That does mean waiting for some time to pass. What I didn't l enjoy about this kiosko was, the wait time can feel longer then what it really is.

If you wants some delicious alcapurias, bacalaitos and ice cold beers...and let's not forget the amazing piña colada!! Plus outback you have the beach and a guy with a horse that you give a tip to and you can ride the horse.

This was my first time to PR and first exposure to the food of the island. This kiosk/restaurant was excellent! I had chicken, rice, and fried plantain. It was amazing! I wanted to go back, but our travel plans didn't allow. I highly recommend!

We ordered combo pincho/ kabobs -chicken, pork and shrimp to share. Order took forever to arrive and pricey. All the food was dry, like it had sat out overnight , no flavor to arroz con gandules, tostones were dry , shrimp were not cleaned properly, no one came to table to offer any assistance or service. No ventilation at all- very unpleasant in heat. Don’t waste your time or money here. Go to La Parrilla - kiosks #2, fabulous food and service!!!!

We came across this place while strolling through the long strip of kiosks and I’m glad we stopped here. I ordered some buffalo wings along with a pina colada. Both things were good and the prices were decent too. I will definitely have to try this spot out again while in town visiting.

I had an amazing experience at Cocina Abierta while visiting Puerto Rico over my birthday. The seasonal menu was creative, exploratory and simply delicious using all seasonal and fresh caught food/seafood. Seriously one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time! We chose to do the 5 course tasting menu along with the wine pairing and it was perfect. Standouts were the “chayote salad” (and as never having green papaya before, this blew my mind) the “beefsteak” -perfectly slow cooked sirloin that exploded with rich flavor, and the “soup” (coconut, creamy and tangy). Our waiter was so knowledgeable and thankfully spoke English, for our convenience. I would recommend here to any visiting San Juan area. Def make a reservation because it was busy even in a Monday!

I visited Cocina Abierta during my first trip to Puerto Rico with my adult son, and it turned into one of the best dining experiences we had. We had originally planned to go to Old San Juan for dinner, but after a change of plans, my son found Cocina Abierta and made a reservation—and I’m so glad he did. We were seated right away (no wait), and I’d definitely recommend making a reservation. We chose to sit outside because the weather was beautiful, but the indoor space was just as inviting—modern, warm, and thoughtfully designed. The concept is a multi-course dining experience where you select your dishes, and they’re brought out over time. The food was unique and different from what I typically eat, which made the experience even more memorable. Everything was beautifully presented and thoughtfully paired. Our waiter, Carlos, was outstanding. He took the time to explain each dish, how it was prepared, and how the flavors worked together. His attention to detail really elevated the experience. The service overall was exceptional—everyone, from the support staff to team members heading out for the night, was warm, welcoming, and made us feel valued. My son and I actually ended up closing out the restaurant, and at no point did we feel rushed. The atmosphere, service, and overall experience were top-tier. We also loved that it was just a short walk back to our hotel, which made the night even more seamless. FYI: I do not recall the pricing as I did not pay for the bill. Thank you to my son 🥰 Highly recommend—this is a must-visit if you’re in San Juan.

This was pretty easy to rate 5 stars! Food was carefully prepared and the journey was so fun! We did a prefix dinner and I am so glad we chose this amazing spot. Service was top notch from the manager to the host and everyone in between. 5 star service easy for the attentiveness and continued courtesy. Atmosphere was a 4.5....very nice but for the price....could use some touch up. A little better chairs and terrace views not so great....needs tall free standing plants/Flowers. I highly recomend!

Delicious! We got the five course tasting menu. Worth every penny. The crudo was my favorite course. My husband loved his cocktail. If you want a delicious, locally sourced meal, hit up this spot.

First of all, the food was absolutely amazing, fresh farm to table ingredients with a rotating menu. The carpaccio and shrimp were the best seafood I’ve ever had. The service was above and beyond. We got the taste menu and did the 5 courses! I couldn’t recommend that enough. Not only was out server/bartender Pamela very knowledgeable about every drink and item on the menu but she was also so nice and willing to chat and give recs on things to do and bars to go to in San Juan! Absolutely loved our time at this restaurant and so happy that our airbnb host recommended it to us. Highly recommend if you’re trying to have a special night in San Juan.

The Ferry is kind of remote, so planning ahead for food and water is wise! The boats run on a fairly regular schedule. We did not do any research beforehand and had to wait about an hour for the destination we chose. Loading was easy and well organized. There are tents for shade. There was no outside space open at the time of our trip on the ferry which was a little disappointing. You can still see through windows but it didn’t hit the same as wind in your face! Overall though - no complaints, well managed, and friendly people.

I had a smooth experience at the ferry terminal. It was well organized and no complications at all. Not sure why so many negative comments about the organization. I arrived 2 hours before departure as I could not purchase tickets online and read so many bad comments about the in person purchase process. I could have arrived an hour before and still make everything on time. The ticket purchase took 5 min and then I had to park my car in the parking lot which is 10 min walk away. Car parking costs 15$ per day and has to be paid on exit at the machine. The ferry terminal also has a cafeteria with a lot of food and drink options to choose from at good rates. Hard working staff. Well I must say this is not what we saw on tiktok. If you are planning a trip to LA culebra, now is not the time. The ferry area part was ok the people are friendly however the ride was rough. The wait times were ok we got tickets on site must be an hour before departure. Parking is close about a 5 minute walk. Donot eat or drink if you easily get motion sickness the majority of the people on the ferry were very sick. The ferry we took had cars for cargo I felt like that makes the ferry jump higher. On the way back we took the ferry with no car cargo and felt a little better. The island is very bad hardly anything open it seemed abandoned i don't understand where all the people go to. We rented a golf cart drove around to several beaches they were mainly empty or closed probably cause of the time of year. Overall to us was an experience but the views were not great at all. PLEASE take motion sickness meds to help you ride smoother.

The issue was not the number of customers, it was the lack of urgency and professionalism behind the counter. The two women working appeared to be laughing, talking, and socializing instead of focusing on getting people through the line quickly. When customers are trying to catch a ferry, that kind of behavior is unacceptable. There is no reason a basic $4–$8 ticketing process should be this slow, outdated, and poorly managed. This entire system needs to be modernized immediately. Customers should be able to purchase tickets online or use self-service kiosks instead of being forced to wait in a line that does not move. Management needs to seriously reevaluate the staffing and operations at this location. If employees cannot process simple ticket sales quickly and professionally, then the process needs to be automated and replaced with a faster, more reliable system. Based on this experience, I would never recommend this ferry service to anyone. The lack of urgency, poor customer service, and outdated ticketing process made this one of the worst travel experiences I’ve had.

I’ve witnessed a family with their kids being discriminated against from two male workers, one I found the name, Lt. Garcia. These two males were like on a power trip, arguing with the females and a family. The supervisor and other crew members didn’t care and most likely won’t do anything. They were most definitely on time for their boarding, and these temp male workers, including Lt. Garcia intentionally closed the gates early, unable to board thus missing their ferry’s. We’ve also witnessed other passengers boarding either late or after the time, which was proof of their discrimination. This is very concerning for new passengers especially outsiders. Just be careful interacting with these folks. It’s a security guy with painted nails with a name badge that says Garcia.

Ferry had only one way tickets for Culebra unfortunately. I was trying to do a one day visit. Got to the Ferry booth at 6am. There was 10 tickets left for Culebra. Online all sold out. 10min later 1 ticket left. So come early if you dont buy online. Viques tickets had about 60ish so we went to Vieques. About a 50ish min ride to the island. I've been to both islands now, nothing like culebra but vieques doesn't dissapoint. Be ready to take eat or take food to eat as the restaurants do not open early and there isn't a place to eat or that selles anything at least at the best beach of vieques I went to. Take a sun umbrella and beach seats if possible, you can bring almost anything on the ferry. 3 adults, 1 senior, 1 child, 1 cooler (they charge for cooler, something small) $30 round trip.

Great service! The ferries were on time both in the morning and at night, which made our trip stress-free. The customer service is excellent—everyone we dealt with was friendly, professional, and very helpful. The boats themselves were clean, comfortable, and well-kept, including the bathrooms, which is always a plus. We used this ferry service twice during our trip, and both experiences were smooth and enjoyable. Definitely a reliable and convenient way to get to Culebra and Vieques! I also want to highlight something that truly stood out. We were traveling with a special needs child, and during our return trip from Culebra to Ceiba on the 8 PM ferry, one of the employees noticed us while we were in line and immediately stepped in to help. They kindly moved us into the first boarding group and made sure my child was accommodated right away. That level of care, professionalism, and respect meant a lot to us. It’s clear that the staff here genuinely care about helping people, even during what can be a stressful and busy time. I’m very grateful for that experience—it really made a difference for our family.

Took the ferry from Ceiba to Culebra and survived the coldest ride of my life 😭 Whoever controls that AC needs to relax because why did it feel like I was being transported directly to Antarctica?? I’ve never experienced such a powerful AC in my entire existence. I was in there having a full cold attack, counting every minute and second until we docked. Beautiful views, but next time I’m bringing a winter coat, gloves, and emotional support blankets 😂❄️

Entrance fee $2 and parking by the hour. Looks like money used for clean restrooms, showers, picnic tables and benches in food area. Look for the WiFi tower decorated as a VERY tall palm tree. Beautiful sand, clear water, no rocks

We were hesitant to take the ferry but I’m glad we did it! What a gorgeous beach with beautiful turquoise water and white soft sand. This beach has facilities and food and drinks and you can rent chairs and umbrellas. Make sure to go early around 9am to enjoy the day. We arrived at noon and definitely felt we needed more time here. Regardless we absolutely enjoyed our visit!

One of greatest beaches in the world for a reason. The water is some of the bluest water I’ve seen in my life. Take a taxi since it’s not walkable from the port/airport. The locals are all very nice.

We love Flamenco Beach and Culebra. It is one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever experienced. The reef directly off the beach has seen better days but the beach, sand, vegetation, and amenities are excellent. If you are taking a car to Culebra be sure to make a reservation on the ferry.

no wonder they have such a high rating. food is phenomenal- you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. the pork ribs were the best we’ve ever had. here on a wednesday, kevin was super friendly and the food came out pretty quick! i can see how they’d be slower on a more busy night. such a great atmosphere too, there’s huge fish off the dock and some birds that swoop in to hunt them. great dock-front vibe and a fresh breeze.

We went there for dinner—just a heads up, there can be a bit of a wait to be seated. for appetizers, We tried the grilled octopus, which was really good and clearly the winner. The fried fish fingers were okay, and the coconut shrimp was decent but nothing special. For the mains, we had the kingfish, which was good, while the chicken was just okay. Solid drink selection overall.

An absolutely five-star experience! The food at Dinghy Dock Rest was simply excellent—flavorful, fresh, and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was spectacular, offering a great vibe that makes you want to stay all night. On top of that, the service was truly exceptional; the staff was attentive, friendly, and made us feel incredibly welcome. Highly recommend, and I will definitely be back!

The best spot for lunch and dinner on the whole island! I loved the spare ribs but also the chocolate brownie with ice cream was great. They also make good and strong cocktails 🍹 that will get you happy :)

We had a great time at Dinghy Dock! The server, Kevin, was so kind and attentive. When we ordered we didn’t realize that the red snapper was breaded, and my husband is gluten free. Kevin realized the error and the kitchen was kind enough to switch it mid order. The final result was delicious! My kids loved feeding the fish off the dock. Beautiful views, great food, excellent service, fun atmosphere…really a unique and yummy experience. Practical advice: based on previous reviews, we were worried there was going to be a long line to get in, but we didn’t have to wait at all. We went around 5 pm.

Great food and service. I honestly just couldn't stand the amount of mosquitoes and flies. They do nothing for the management of these pests. Not a fire not a fan nothing. I was bitten all over just by sitting on the deck outside. Had to fight the flies to eat.

Highly recommend the mojitos! We had regular and passion fruit. Both were exceptional! Mofongo de Camarones was fantastic! Fried red snapper was another great choice at our table! Marina views were an added bonus. We will definitely go again!

The food was excellent, the atmosphere was fantastic. The only thing to note would be the bathrooms are in a different building, so if you have a hard time walking or or elderly, just keep it in mind.

Beautiful location, with full sea view, a nice terrace sheltered from the sun with plenty of open ventilation. The food was very good, ample selection of local specialties mainly (but not only) based on fresh seafood. The staff was friendly and responsive, though we were a sizeable group and it took some time for everyone to get the mains we had ordered, prepared and delivered few at a time. The ambiance was pleasant and welcoming, though somehow affected by some noisy lawn mowing right next to the dining terrace during our lunch (I guess the restaurant management had little influence over that). Good cocktails available at the table (as well as at the bar). Overall a positive experience, I would go back.

We stopped by El Cayo in the afternoon for drinks and appetizers, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our visit. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome and even let us pick our own table, which was a nice touch. The setting is fantastic—shady, breezy, and refreshingly cool, with a beautiful swimming pool that adds to the relaxed, tropical vibe. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel like you can unwind. Service was quick and attentive throughout, and the food and drinks did not disappoint. The piña coladas were easily the best we’ve ever had—perfectly balanced and incredibly refreshing. The pastelillos were just as impressive, full of flavor and clearly made with care. Overall, El Cayo is a great spot to relax, enjoy delicious bites, and sip on amazing drinks. We’d absolutely come back.

We stopped at this place dying for breakfast and coffee. We quickly realized it's very small and our party of 8 was probably going to sit outside. We got lucky and found seating inside. The coffee was delicious, and the food was decent. Besides the guy taking our order, everyone else seem to hate their job. It was like we were bugging them for being there. It's a decent spot to stop by for a quick coffee and treat. That's it.

Awesome cafe very near to El Murro. Great coffee. Pretty difficult to actually find. It's located in this beautiful plaza but there is only one entry to get into the plaza - so first you have to find that. Had some lattes and pastries and a turkey and cheese croissant sandwich. Everything was well made and delicious. Highly recommend to stop in on your way to see El Murro.

Thankfully, this was the first stop on an amazing morning walking food tour taken Sunday 2/22/2026 with Elliot of Spoon tours (found through TripAdvisor). It’s located in a historic building (former hospital and barracks now turned cultural center). The history of this family’s coffee making goes back to the 1800s. I am not a coffee drinker or a hot drink person. (My morning caffeine of choice is usually a Dr. Pepper. 🤣) But of course, I was going to try everything on the food tour. I was pleasantly surprised by the smoothness of this coffee and ended finishing the whole cup. I was happy to learn I can buy it online. The ham and cheese (jamon y queso) Mallorca sandwich was delicious. The bread was warm and fresh topped with powder sugar which paired well with the ham inside.

Best coffee in Old San Juan. I ordered an iced latte with oat milk. The quality of the coffee was amazing. The flavor was well balanced and smooth. I also ordered an egg and croissant that were delectable. I would definitely come back. Be aware that it is a bit hard to locate using google maps. A lovely gentleman helped us find the entrance. The shop is located inside the Museo de las Americas.

I gave it 4 stars because I thought it was a little pricey, but I understand it’s a tourist area. I was visiting family in PR and we found the cafe because of Google Maps. Have to say the food was delicious and worth every penny! The cook was nice as well!

This place is awesome. Stopped here on day one in Rincon. Just happen to tell a waitress I was looking for somewhere to sleep and …. there are rooms right upstairs! Reasonable rates, super clean, spectacular view. The staff is great, the food is great, the vibe is fantastic. Live music on an incredible lookout to the ocean. Great atmosphere every night. feels like home. Kudos to Kevin and all the staff.

We were not at the hotel but at the restaurant. Perfect place to have a delicious meal. The mussels were outstanding and that is not easy to admit outside France. I am French by the way.... We all enjoyed our dishes. The fish tacos and the fresh fish filet hamburger were made with fresh red snapper: perfect! Prices are very reasonable. Don't miss it!

Was recommended by friends living in Rincon for dinner. WOW, was not disappointed! Servers, seatings, sunset! Oh did I mention food, fresh caught tuna wrap was phenomenal as was the coconut flane! Live entertainment really set the total dining experience!

I didn't stay at the hotel but I did dine at the restaurant two days ago (April 27, 2026). I ordered an appetizer of the clams. *Chef's kiss* That white wine sauce that they're in was so on point! It was my birthday eve and some other patrons bought me a dessert. I picked the key lime pie and sweet Jesus! It was SOO good. Very refreshing and super tart. My server (forgot his name😣) was very informative and super sweet. He informed the band of my name and they sang happy birthday. It was a good night! I was the last to leave and every employee I walked by wished me a happy birthday! I went at night so I didn't get to see the view of the ocean but it's a perfect location...ocean breeze was plentiful, ambiance was top tier! When I return to PR, I will definitely be back.

Absolutely stunning spot, especially for sunset views! We visited twice—once for breakfast, which was excellent, and once for dinner. Both experiences were top-notch. The vibe is incredible: there’s a DJ on the upper terrace and a live band downstairs, creating the perfect atmosphere. The food is delicious, the cocktails are fantastic, and the staff is super friendly and welcoming. Pro tip: It gets very busy, so make sure to book a table in advance, especially on weekends! Definitely a must-visit.

Plenty of free and easy parking. The spot is pretty, and the trail seems nice and very long! My hubby and I went to sight see and didn’t swim in the water (but this definitely looked more like a surfing beach anyway).

Great beach and not overly populated. More secluded and as we took a walking path we found an area where we were the only people on the beach. Felt like we were on our own private island.

Went to Domes beach in a Sunday just to check it out. Smaller beach that seems to be a surfer favorite, there were many out. Interesting to see and be so close to the old nuclear plant, wish they still toured. Got photos of the light house and walk through some vendors. Nice beach, a little too rocky for us to swim.

One of the best places to surf in Rincon. Reef bottom.. no swimming. Board rentals and surf lessons right on the beach. Ready to park for free. Horse back riding on the beach.

Beautiful beach for surfing and hanging out. No swimming for kids as it is Rocky and big waves. Unless you get lucky and get a calm day. Right next to light house a nice place to walk and relax. There is a restaurant by the lighthouse.

Very clean and pretty area. Very soothing and relaxing to listen to the massive waves crashing. Can not go up into the lighthouse. The woman’s restroom had no teepee! And the big binoculars to pay to look out with where ALL broken and just there for decorations. Regardless it’s a great area for picture taking and walking.

Cool spot to check out, the lighthouse is pretty cool they have some vendors on site sometimes and the bar at the end is really fun to check out along with the amazing sunset views

I went today on Easter Sunday around 10 a.m., and it was very quiet. Yesterday, I tried to go at the end of the day to catch the sunset, but it was impossible to find parking.

We came here for snorkeling with my 4 kids and had so much fun, we spent hours snorkeling and viewing the reef. We seen many cool fish. There is very limited parking, upon entering we went to the left and sat in a shaded area. The rocks are slippery upon entering and there are sea urchins in the coral area, though we didn’t see any near the shallow area, that is always a possibility. We were very careful where we stepped and watched out for sea urchins. I’d suggest water shoes and being very careful. The water was absolutely beautiful though.

We visited steps once in the winter months, but found the waves to be HUGE, so I was determined to come back in the summer months for some snorkeling… I’m so glad we did! The snorkeling was awesome. There is a ton of bright, colorful reef right off shore. We snorkeled for about an hour and saw a turtle as well as a spotted eagle ray. The parking is free but fills up quickly. You can park along the side of the street and walk along the side of the main road before the last turn. There is also a cool little stone labyrinth just outside of the parking lot to the right. Very cool spot!

A really cool beach off the coast of Rincon, we bought some snorkelling gear from the surf shop right up the road and did some snorkelling. There's one sandy drop-off area to the left of the beach entrance that I recommend you use, since the rest of the reef is extremely rocky and you will get injured if you try to enter/exit the water on the rocks. Really cool being able to snorkel with the fish, and the currents are strong but not too strong such that moderate swimmers should be able to snorkel well.

Spent a Sunday at is locally called Steps Beach due to a set of cement steps that are at the edge of the water. Nice beach, very walkable and a popular spot for snorkeling. We did some snorkeling and found it very easy with little surf or waves. Lots of family and kids.

Steps Beach is a breathtaking spot with two faces! When the water is calm, it’s perfect for snorkeling with incredible coral reefs and plenty of colorful fish. When the swell picks up, it turns into a fantastic surf spot. But be careful! The corals are very close to the surface, so you need to be cautious whether you're swimming or surfing. Definitely a must-visit for nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts!

Estela continues to impress me every single time. This was my second visit and I already know it won’t be my last. The food was incredible from start to finish. I had one of the specials, the duck ham appetizer, and honestly could have eaten two more orders of it. It was just perfectly executed. The cocktails were also perfectly crafted. We had one that had a sesame seed garnish that elevated the drink to a new level when you take a nibble and a sip together. We were lucky enough to meet Chef Abel Mendoza, who is tremendously talented. His food really transports you and makes you feel joy, cozy, and intrigued all in one bite. I was blown away once again and already can’t wait for my next visit to the west coast. Oh and DO NOT skip dessert!

We had a lovey meal here! Our server was wonderful and the food delicious. Both of us were also impressed by the unique and well-crafted cocktails we had. We will be back next time we are in Rincón!

I was celebrating my birthday week and Estela was the final restaurant we dined at before our departure. The food, service and staff were absolutely amazing! Thank you to our waitress and Chef Abel for making our experience one we will never forget.

Don't let the gravel parking lot fool you, this restaurant is topnotch! Every course, from our tasty appetizers phenomenal cocktails to the rich and delicious entrées was excellent. The menu is veg-friendly and the service is sublime.

Cuatro Sombras didn’t disappoint! I turned to my fellow Yelp reviewers to find a local coffee shop with authentic Puerto Rican coffee and it was perfect! The coffee was smooth and the cortado worth trying. I had plain avocado toast and had them suggest another pastry to try - they suggested the guava croissant however I didn’t know it came with ham and cheese (I don’t do pork). They quickly and kindly refunded it and offered me a croissant with plain guava butter. It’s VERY sweet (but delicious) so next time I would get it on the side. There are two sides - one more bar like vibe and one more coffee shop vibe. It was a really great spot to stop on our visit!

Most amazing farm to table, single origin coffee! We were in town for a few days and came here everyday. Very smooth coffee, always a line which is a good sign. We had their cappuccino, cortado, and iced latte all the them were great. We also their ham and cheese croissant with the Guava butter, phenomenal and must try! They do sell coffee online for those wishing to order more, trust me you will want to!

A peaceful gem in the heart of Old San Juan. This spot offers delicious coffee, a great variety of breakfast items, and a fantastic selection of sweet pastries. The quesito is a must-try! While it can get quite busy, the friendly staff and calm atmosphere make it an ideal retreat for friends, couples, or solo travelers. Slow service so please be prepared

We came to this café with pretty high expectations based on the reviews, but it didn’t quite live up to the hype. The location is great, but overall it felt a bit overrated and overpriced for what you get. The staff was okay, but not particularly welcoming, which didn’t help the experience. Here’s what we tried: • Hummus sandwich (3.5/5) • Cuatro Sombras sandwich (3.5/5) • Latte with caramel + vanilla (3.5/5) Everything was decent, but nothing really stood out. Overall, it’s an okay spot.

lovely coffee shop tucked in the streets of viejo san juan. service was very friendly - i mean look at this doggie oat milk latte!!! we got the yuaco panini too which was delish. fun to people watch here as there is a mix of tourists and employees from the capitol. unfortunately bathrooms were not serviceable but for coffee and a quick bite i would highly recommend.

San Cristóbal Castle was an incredible place to explore and a true highlight of Old San Juan. The sheer size of the fortress is impressive — it feels like a maze of tunnels, ramparts, lookout points, and hidden corners that you could wander through for hours. Every section reveals another amazing view of the city or coastline. The historical atmosphere is very well preserved, and the signage gives just the right amount of context to appreciate what you’re seeing. Walking through the tunnels and defensive structures really brings the past to life in a way that feels immersive rather than museum-like. The views alone are worth the visit — panoramic scenes of Old San Juan paired with ocean breezes make the experience both educational and relaxing. It’s clean, well maintained, and easy to navigate for families. If you’re visiting San Juan, San Cristóbal is absolutely a must-see. It perfectly blends history, scenery, and exploration into a memorable experience we’d gladly do again.

The little brother of the two forts, but no less impressive. The views are spectacular. Make sure to find the spiral staircase to the upper level. You won't regret that trek. Remember, one pass ($10) gets you into both places for the day. Make sure to take the trip to both. Walk between them and see Old San Juan!

Amazing site to visit. If you have a National Park pass you can use it here. Otherwise it’s $10 per person. So many interesting things to see. The weather was great, which is important as most of the time you are outside.

On a Wednesday morning in January, I first spent a couple of hours going through all the levels of Castillo El Morro, then walked over to San Cristobal. It takes around 20 minutes on foot. Then spent 45-50 minutes at this smaller castle. Had to rush a bit because I had a flight soon. Entry is free if you have the National Parks Pass. Worth a visit in addition to El Morro. The long tunnel walks, and the slit viewpoints (probably for machine gunners) are pretty unique to San Cristobal. There are signs throughout, so it's easy to know what's remaining to see.

Castillo San Cristóbal was the first historical site we visited in San Juan, and it was the perfect choice to start our trip. Since it sits at the eastern gate of the city, it provides an incredible vantage point and a clear view of the entire entrance to the Old Town. • Price: Only $10 per person • The Views: You get stunning panoramic views of the coastline and the colorful streets of Old San Juan. • Experience: It’s well-preserved and offers a deep dive into the military history of Puerto Rico.

This place was recommended to me by a local. After waiting in line for 45 minutes, finally got a table. To my surprise, even though we're in United States, evening was in Spanish. Keep in mind this is a tourist spot. No menu, just a chalkboard. Waiter spends 10 minutes explaining what we can get and we order. We waited for our food 20+ minutes. Everyone that was seated after us got their food and left. Food comes, I had the skirt steak with veggies. These turn out to be boiled veggies. That's fine, but they were over boiled by a lot, looking like moosh. And I think they boiled them in the same water they boiled chicken in as they tasted like boiled chicken. See photos. I wasn't asked how to cook the steak, it came well done and barely seasoned. The cut was on (hence I gave 1 star and not 0) but no flavor at all. They have this chimichurri sauce that somewhat saved it and made it edible, but barely. The green "hot" salsa was like water, they probably ran out and put water in the bottle. Oh, and absolutely 0 attention to customers. Not a single time did anyone come by to ask us if we want anything else, of the food is ok. Nothing!!! We had to hunt down a waiter to just get the check. Oh, and the bathrooms are beyond nasty. Save yourself the time in line and find another place. Worst food and service I've seen in the last 5 years. I almost forgot, we got this deep fried thing that looks like an enchilada. It was literally almost black, completely burned. I regret not taking a picture of it...

It opened about 15 minutes after 11am scheduled time. The Pernil was excellent. Order in small portions to taste first. Some items are better and some. The Arroz con gandules and Pernil was great. The sampler was nice too. Enjoy.

If you want authentic Puerto Rican food this is your place. We had the mixed platter as we didn't want to miss out on anything. This was a great choice and it gave us a variety of selections / flavours .. would highly recommend the platter if you're indecisive. Highlight was the rice, pulled pork, plantains .. there was other small fried nibbles that I don't know the names of but they were all nice / tasty. Please be mindful that the restaurant is relatively small therefore on busy days, expect to wait before being seated.

I had a day in Puerto Rico before a cruise and wanted some authentic Puerto Rican food. I definitely went to the right place. I wasn’t too hungry, so I kept it simple with chicken pasteles. Chefs kiss!!! I also had tostones on the side - delicious!

Reviews for this place are polarized. After eating here, I understand why. I can tell from the food that a good chef built the menu at one point. Currently the place is an operational disaster. Customers and staff all look miserable. Food arrived cold, although the flavors were still quite good. There’s a sauce that tastes like pineapple, avocado, and chili, and pairs really well with the pernil. The skirt steak was delicious and very flavorful. Everything takes forever. The line is long because emptied tables go 20 minutes before getting cleared and patrons wait 10 minutes for their check, etc. I would avoid this place until there’s some indication it’s functional again, and I bet when that happens you can have a really good experience here.

The birthplace of the Pina Colada. It opens up at 11am. Get there earlier to get in line. They do not offer reservations. They have a line for sitting/eating, and a line for the walk up bar where you can get a Pina Colada and leave. Food was "ok". The seafood was fresh. I loved the coconut 🥥 Calamari, but the dipping sauce was gross. They needed a sauce that was spicy, to offset the coconut sweetness. Pina Colada was EXCELLENT According to my friends. I found it way too sweet. I think that's because I am so used to the fake stuff. Washrooms are nasty, and small. Maybe make boys and girls washrooms unisex? The servers were super kind.

This is the birthplace of the Pina Colada. They were a delicious treat on a hot evening $10 each. Non alcohol versions available. The charming decor of old San Juan makes this place great for photo ops. Dinner was good. Ordered 2 different appetizer samplers. It was good to be able to try a variety of item, everything on both samplers was deep fried.

We ordered the calamari, Puerto Rican delights, sancocho for soup of the day and mofongo. Everything was perfect and of course we didn’t leave without trying their Pina Colada which is what they’re know for. I don’t like Pina Coladas but I will never leave Puerto Rico again without having theirs. Our server, Isaiah, was on point with every recommendation he made. Highly recommend.

It’s not just a restaurant — it’s a landmark. Bottom line: The birthplace of the Piña Colada, and it still makes the best one on the island. Go for the drinks, skip the dining queue if you’re short on time, and raise a glass to a true Puerto Rican original.

I'm not sure what the hype was about this place, We were told about the Pina Colada and how great everything is. To be honest this place was unfortunately not up to any of the hype, the service was not the best, my wife ordered the Snapper which was good, but the plantain was just awful. I went with the ribeye which wasn't that good along with the plantain which was just worse. We ordered Pina Coladas which were very mid not much in the form of alcohol. We hear PR rum is great but this wasn't it. We even gave the benefit of the doubt and tried another round and it was a little better but not by much. The atmosphere here is nice as it's located in what I guess is Old San Juan, but unfortunately we will not come here again or even recommend anyone else to come here. I'm sure there are plenty of other places in this area that are better.

Renting from Alamo was easily one of the best decisions I made during my trip to Puerto Rico. I originally reserved an SUV because we planned to drive all over the island and wanted something comfortable. When I got there, I noticed they had a few Jeeps available, so I asked one of the employees if it was possible to switch. She checked with the office, and to my surprise, they upgraded me to a Jeep at no extra charge, even though Jeeps normally cost more. That Jeep ended up making the trip even better. We had an absolute blast driving around the island with the doors off and taking in all the amazing scenery. It was the perfect way to explore Puerto Rico. We also decided to stay an extra day in Cabo Rojo, and Alamo made it super easy to extend the rental. There was an extra charge, which was completely fair and expected, and the process was quick and hassle-free. Returning the Jeep was just as easy. They checked the mileage, looked at the fuel level, did a quick walk-around inspection, asked if I had any issues, and that was it. The whole experience was smooth from start to finish, and the customer service was excellent. If I ever go back to Puerto Rico, I'll definitely rent from this Alamo location again. Highly recommend! 🌴🚙☀️

This is the 6th time I rent at this location and is always the best. This time I ended up driving this Jeep Wrangler. I appreciate to Ginellys who made this experience the best. A jeep is a must have on the island for exploring anywhere: great vehicle. Excellent gas mileage. Seamless pick up and drop off. Booked through capital one travel and got fair price. Don’t forget to get fuel: it is 125 bucks if returned low or empty. Very friendly staff who speak English and Spanish

Excellent experience from start to finish. The pickup process was fast and easy, the staff was very friendly and professional, and the vehicle was clean and in great condition. Returning the car was just as quick and hassle-free. Everything went smoothly, and I would definitely rent from Alamo again. Highly recommended!

Yes airports are expensive, but it's expensive and unsatisfying. Then the duty free is a waste of time. You can get the same items on the island and just pack it in your bag and save a bunch of money. And the security is super relaxed. I have a subdermal device that always get me pat down. I went through, they asked if I had a necklace, I said yes, and they cleared me. The airport isn't bad, it's just not good and spending time there isn't fun.

Great airport. Best advice be there 2 to 3hr early just to be on the safe side. Just please wary of one of elevators to the terminals it will get stuck especially trying to get out. Follow these steps when at the airport have your bags go threw scanner so they can yellow tag it, then go to the counter and have your bag checked in after that you have to get in line for TSA, it can be really quick so just be patient and you shall make it to your flight.

With everything going on around the government shutdown, TSA was extremely slow—long lines and pretty chaotic just to get through the initial checkpoint. Definitely give yourself extra time. The airport itself feels older and a bit worn down. It could really use a refresh. That said, once you’re inside, there are actually a lot of solid food options for breakfast and lunch, plus some good shopping and local snacks. Follow these steps when at the airport have your bags go threw scanner so they can yellow tag it, then go to the counter and have your bag checked in after that you have to get in line for TSA, it can be really quick so just be patient and you shall make it to your flight.

I was flying out of Terminal A at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, and honestly the experience getting in was rough. With everything going on around the government shutdown, TSA was extremely slow—long lines and pretty chaotic just to get through the initial checkpoint. Definitely give yourself extra time. The airport itself feels older and a bit worn down. It could really use a refresh. That said, once you’re inside, there are actually a lot of solid food options for breakfast and lunch, plus some good shopping and local snacks. On the bright side, flights seem to run pretty smoothly and leave on time, which helps make up for the hassle getting in. Not my favorite airport, but it gets the job done for the area.
