3 Days of Puerto Rican Paradise!

6 Days 16 Activities

Hey everyone! I visited Puerto Rico about three years ago, but I realized back then that the island has way too many beaches, mountains, and local festivals to squeeze into one quick trip. I'd love to head back next month solo for 3 days to hit the spots I loved and try a few new ones. I typed out what I did and what I'm planning to do, but honestly I'm still figuring out what to do in Puerto Rico this time around to make it the absolute best trip. Let me know if these times and spots make sense!

Arrival & Bus to La Concha Resort

La Concha Resort, Puerto Rico, Autograph Collection

Roovio

I landed in San Juan, and witnessed celebrations everywhere, grabbed my bag, and took a bus and went straight to La Concha Resort in Condado.

Rest at the Resort

La Concha Resort, Puerto Rico, Autograph Collection

Roovio

Rested for a good 2 hours in the room, then changed into my swimming costume and walked right out to Condado Beach.

Condado Beach Afternoon

Condado Beach

Roovio

The beach was quite full with locals, tourists, and kids running around, but I managed to secure a clean spot with a clear sea view. Bought a $5 alcapurria from La Alcapurria Quemá nearby.

Evening at La Placita de Santurce

La Placita de Santurce

Roovio

The ocean breeze was what I was missing in the US, literally washed out all my stress and lifted up my mood. So instead of going back to the room, I hopped on a bus and went to La Placita de Santurce. Spent around 2 hours there just walking around, taking photos, and soaking in the evening vibe.

Dinner at Cueva del Mar

La Cueva del Mar | Calle Loíza

Roovio

After this, I reached Cueva del Mar restaurant to eat dinner. Got the mofongo with garlic shrimp for $22.

Back to La Concha Resort

La Concha Resort, Puerto Rico, Autograph Collection

Roovio

After all the food and travel I was feeling a bit tired, so I went back to the Concha Resort and slept early.

3

Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico

Roovio

New day with new plans. Since San Juan is known for its history, today I decided to head to Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico. Spent 2 hours checking out the art and garden.

Lunch at Café El Punto

Café El Punto

Roovio

After the museum I went to Café El Punto and ate lunch. The food was delicious and prices were reasonable ($18 total). If you come here you must try the mofongo trilogy and definitely ask to add extra garlic sauce on it.

Castillo San Cristóbal

Roovio

Now tummy is full and so is the energy. Walked over to Castillo San Cristóbal, it has all these old tunnels and massive walls facing the sea. If you don't know what to do in puerto rico then must mark this fort on your list. Entry was $10.

Pool at La Concha Resort

La Concha Resort, Puerto Rico, Autograph Collection

Roovio

After spending a good 3 hours there after lunch, I took a bus back to the Concha Resort. Since it has a super clean pool deck, I went swimming. Yesterday I just sat on the shore and didn't go in the water due to the heavy crowd, so the pool felt cozy and clean.

Dinner at De Averao

Ropa Vieja Grill

Roovio

Got a quick casual dinner at De Averao near the hotel and called it a night.

4

Castillo San Felipe del Morro

Roovio

It was my last day, and that's when I was confused, asking everyone what to do in Puerto Rico. I looked at my phone, read some reviews, and went to Castillo San Felipe del Morro (El Morro). It is traditional, massive, and has that huge grassy field right by the ocean.

Lunch at El Jibarito

El Jibarito

Roovio

After the fort, I walked back into Old San Juan and ate at El Jibarito. Got the pernil (roast pork) with rice and beans for $16. I prefer savory local flavors, so I tried this with a cold Medalla beer.

Escambrón Beach & Snorkeling

Balneario El Escambrón

Now, San Juan heat with ocean air on your skin is incomplete without one last swim, so I went to Escambrón Beach. Spent some time taking photos, sat on the sand for 2 hours until food digested, and then went snorkeling. Saw sea turtles and fish right off the shore!

Farewell Dinner at Raíces

Restaurante Raíces

Roovio

After snorkeling, I visited one last restaurant, Raíces. I asked a few people online what to do in Puerto Rico, and they mentioned this place, so I ate their famous churrasco mofongo for $26.

Head to San Juan Airport

Luis Munoz Marin International Airport

Roovio

Reached Concha Resort again, picked up my bags, put my suit on, and headed back to San Juan airport for my flight home.
